Languages

ocPortal 2.0 will feature multiple language support, with a number of languages supplied officially by us. This topic is in anticipation of this.

If you would like a certain language to be supported in ocPortal 2.0, and you can justify its case (whether it is widely employed enough on the internet, or whether the speakers don't tend to know secondary languages, etc) please post about it here and make your case.

If you are interested in translating for us for financial compensation, please post the languages you can translate here, and contact details.

If you would like to translate ocPortal 2.0 to a certain language in return for a free 2 year registration, please post the language here.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to list the languages you plan to have supported at the moment? So people can know which they can do or which they would like to add…

No, because I don't want to bias what people say with my own conclusions. I can say that there will be a Spanish translation, and that somebody has done some unofficial preliminary work on it - I don't know whether he will have time to finish it though, and nothing has been contracted.

I can add to that by mentioning that I am the Spanish translator, and I am also translating it into French. While Chris is correct in saying that nothing has been contracted yet, I can safely say that I have plenty of time to get it done.

Like jota said in a pm, i didnt respect his post , i had to mentioned his post in mine once we have the same offer and he was the first to post.

So who is reading these, please, read the jota´s language post before my
language post because he was the first.

By that, my apolagies to jota.

Ps - jota, these is not a contest to see whos the first one to post.
Ps2 - admin, if none of the users can or want to translate to Portuguese in that case ill do it , not for financial proposes.

Thx. Once again my apolagies.

It's no problem, I'll just split the translation 50:50. Maybe let jota do the text files and Joao do the string tables. I'm willing to give 2 years of free registration to both of you.

Thanks Chris, you're very kind… but no need to do that. I've talked with Joao and he's surely more competent to do that translation. My english is not so good.
I wouldn't do that for money, anyway if i can help… it will be my pleasure, just let me know. Congratulations for this wonderfull community portal script, for me is the best one.

Regards,

Jota

So to summarise this topic,

(Chris - English)
phT - Finnish
Bam - Lithuanian
Derrick - French
Derrick - Spanish
Joao - Portuguese
Kitara - Vietnamese
DJ - Russian
FliX - German

Beta 1 of ocPortal 2 will be released very soon, so translation can begin for anyone still wishing to do it.

Anyone who produces a quality translation will be eligible for 2 years free registration, on the condition that copyright is transferred to us. This is necessary as we need to have full rights over our official distribution. People may of course still produce translations under their own copyright, and have them distributed unofficially if they wish :).

There's a translation module in the Admin Centre. All you'll need to do is…
  • select the language you wish to translate from the list (I've programmed all the standard codes into it)
  • select the language file you wish to translate (there are 49 of these to go through)
  • enter the translations for each of the languages
  • edit the left menus for the 4 default zones

It should be an easy, but long process (because ocPortal2 is huge, it has a lot of language strings).

There's no need to translate the guides.
