I installed the partially translated italian .po files from launchpad following the instructions. I uploaded using filezilla in lang-custom/IT folder, then run config_editor.php and set to IT.
When I re-login The template of the theme (default) is broken and characters look bad; the position of blocks are altered and menu admin is vertical instead of orizontal… a complete chaos! :P.
Reading some topic I realized that is a problem of character set option. Italian is set usually on uft8, but I don't find the option in admin section to set it. Where is?

Thanks for your help.

It may be characters look bad as content was saved into the database as iso-8859-1 and now you're on utf-8. ocPortal is supposed to automatically set utf-8 if you use .po files.

As for the layout, it is very common for people to translate the global language strings 'en_left' (left), 'en_right' (right) and 'dir' (ltr) wrongly. These are meant to be left in English unless you are using a right-to-left language like Arabic or Hebrew.

Thanks for explanation… I'm quite confusing; I lost something during installation (I made from your 2 minutes installer)? Now I remember through the process I set uft-8.
For the broken layout, it means the italian translation is wrong? Where? I can correct editing the .po files or some configuration?

Please give me some detailed instruction for solve the problem, thanks.

First I would check utf-8 is being used by looking at the HTML source of the site. It will say the charset near the top.

As for dir/en_left/en_right…
I just fixed this on Launchpad.

Hi,

Ok, I just had the same problem. I had to get rid of the lang_custom/IT/global.ini file I had which was blocking my po equivalent. Then I had to empty the language cache.
That should do it.
