Arabic supportThe translation isn't absolutely complete yet; menus are not translated, and some administration strings aren't translated. However, site admins would want to customise the menus anyway, and visitors get a completely native portal experience. Rida has offered to answer questions from users of the Arabic language pack, and I'm sure he'll be willing to answer questions from other people who want to do translations. The main message is that complete translations are now very possible; and we are here to provide the assistance needed, for users wanting to perform the translations. It's not an easy or small task, and there is a learning curve - but I believe it pays off. Users doing a translation get put into the "community friend" user group (which gives them access to the support forum), and are given free registration for 2 years (or longer if they maintain the language pack with new releases). If I answered something that you think should be in the documentation, please take the initiative and add it to the community documentation. We really need people to help out here and build a well-organised large support resource. |

Thanks a lot Rida for the Arabic translation. Anyway i had this little problem… "TEXT DIRECTION" . you know the Arabic uses rtl instead of ltr for dir. the problem is the text still "ltr" even after adding the dir=rtl in global.ini . Can you help solving this. by the way i'm using IE6 |

I fixed the problem let me tell you step by step how you do it. first rename the AR folder to EN then upload this global.ini which i fixed. before there was a problem changing the language to Arabic from the Admin Area. so i figured this way to make it work. Rida you didn't add this two line to the global.ini en_left=left en_right=right it's neccessary to define right and left as i think at the End of this previe, i wanna thank Rida and Chris for this beatiful Portal. Keep it up guys. |

We are really glad that you like ocPortal, regarding this issue we are working on it for the next version of ocPortal, where it will be a full Arabic interface once you choose it to be during installation. |

As far as I know the Arabic language pack hasn't been maintained. ocPortal has moved on a long way since 2004, so salvaging an old pack would probably be slower than starting from a new one. If I answered something that you think should be in the documentation, please take the initiative and add it to the community documentation. We really need people to help out here and build a well-organised large support resource. |

I would like to translate ocPortal (to Arabic), but I know nothing about PHP. If you think I can do that, I will be glad to do the translation. Considering, as you know, that Arabic use different character, and it's written right to left. Regards. |

We'd be happy to answer any questions you have; just open a support ticket when you've got a query.
I don't have those to hand at the moment, but I'm sure we can make them available later. It's more important that the strings in the language files (such as global.ini) are translated through the translation interface first. |
