What to charge for sites on multi site network.

Hi everyone,

I am putting together a multi site network. The main site will promote the network as a whole with individual businesses having their own sites.

I really don't know what to charge people to put a site together for them. Possibly offer a few different options depending on how much time I would spend….basic, standard and premium?

I was also considering offering pages on the main site if people don't want a whole site of their own.

Any thoughts, ideas suggestions on this would be much appreciated, thanks.

Are you looking to subdomain them?

For instance… myname.yourdomainname.com?

For my freelance web designing, I charge by the page first. Then I charge if they want any scripts added to it. Is this something you're wondering? Am I on the right track?

Hi Eric,

The sites will be at theirdomainname.com.

I am really wide open to any suggestions. It is still in the beginning development stages so I am still pondering my options and exactly how I want to structure and charge for it.

The site I am working on is the one in my signature.

Thanks for the reply.

Do your research, you'll need all that due diligence goodness.

Yup, did it all myself so far….with the help of the tutorials and searching the forums when I had troubles. The documentation here is great.

I'm getting there on the pricing, Eric is offering up some great advice in a private conversation.

I just learned how the private conversations work within a topic, that's cool. I don't think my last post in here made any sense to anyone but him and I

Alright enough funny stuff back to serious business
Well I got it figured out and have two user groups set up for 'subscriptions' but I ran into a problem.

When testing Paypal I kept getting this message "The link you have used to enter the PayPal system is invalid. Please review the link and try again."

So I checked and re checked all my settings and they are right. Go over to the first site I set up in my network (not the main site) and tried it there with the exact same settings and it works. So I compare the two again and see that my main site was set to receive payment in Canadian dollars and the other was set for payment in GBP. So I set it to Canadian as well and now it gets the same error? Makes no difference if I change it back again, it still does not work?

Are you using the paypal subscription?
Also, can you share the page where they subscribe or is that not visible?

You have to be logged in to see it….which isn't really a good thing. I would like guests to be able to see the subscriptions and then sign up if they want to subscribe. I think what I will do is make a page quests can see with all the options and pricing info with links on it to guide them through.

Here's a suggestion…

Make a page that is guest enabled that shows both subscriptions on the one page. Then under each description, add a button that could say something like "Click here to order" or a button of some sort. That will lead to the pages you have set up now for "members only" viewing and this will re-iterate what they are subscribing to.

Is your Paypal account set to be able to receive money in CAD? I think you might need to set up a balance for it.
