I am at awe of this new look.
I hope it becomes the default when you install ocportal.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

I say WOW!! me too, but..

This is a "fixed-width" theme, and I always think Chris don't like it much…
What change your mind, Chris?

See you!

I don't really have an opinion to be honest. It depends on what you're trying to achieve design-wise and what browsers your audience use :).

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Ah I agree.
I personally do like fluid but a set width can be pretty.

The one thing fixed-width has going for it is that it's much easier to design for :)

Hey guys, let's not talk 'negative'.

Why not offer BOTH choices - fluid and fixed. That way the prospective user can choose their own display.

"Themes" folder would need to have something like 'default-fixed' and 'default-fluid', and the user can take it from there.

How about it?

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

I could not agree with you more.
I do not mean to be negative.
I am just very truthful and in doing so I want whats best for ocportal, you have to know about the bad in order so it can be changed to good.

Are you wanting it to be a setting too?

Its basically constructive criticism.

Ouch!

I didn't mean to give the impression that I was being critical of ANYBODY. On the contrary, I thought that, personal preferences being what they are, some users might be attracted by a choice of one (fluid) or the other (fixed).

No criticism, no criticism, no criticism … honest!

*hugs its ok* Your a good man.
I would love an option, although I wonder if that would make it harder or easier to make skins.

LOL, Amy.

Harder to skin? Probably not. But if by 'harder' you men MORE work - sure!

One or two in each category to start with would suffice. That would give others the incentive to start working on their own displays.

Talking personally, all I need is the base starting point and I can then enjoy myself 'modding' the little things that I am capable of. I still don't have the 'smarts' to dig deep into the core, and will probably never have. That is why I was encouraged by the staff comments, but especially that of Robbie …

Robbie said

"I'm all about the user experience. Software should be enjoyable to use - whether that's due to cool features, or that feeling of gratification you get from seeing your site come together fast."

My sentiments, exactly!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Yep when I saw that comment by Robbie I was thinking yep thats my job too.
Thats why I give as much feedback as I can to ocportal, must of the comments I post are actually from other people not from me, people I try to get using the product.

And yes by harder I mean more work.
