Hi,

I've used OCPortal in the past, and really like the news/forum integration, plus ease of use, so am keen to use it again.

I'm looking at making a site that has a news section, a forum, and a wiki section.  For the wiki section, the users will need to be able to create an article, place it in a tree structure (e.g. Vehicle - Car - Ford), and also mark its location on a map.  They would then be able to view all the articles by location on a map (e.g. zoom in on London, and see all the articles located round there.)

Is this something OCPortal can do, or be integrated with?  if not, would something like Mediawiki offer the forum and (admin only) news functionality I need?

Thanks!

While ocPortal has the necessary modules (news, forum, CEDI/catalogues), your use of tied-in maps is quite a specific requirement. You would likely require some custom development in order to get that outcome, but ocPortal provides a great base for you to start.

For map integration, custom code will definitely be required but the ocdatamap & ocusermap addons are a good starting point.

Thanks.

How easy is this custom development?

Can you point me in the direction of more details on ocdatamap?

Like any system, it takes a while to get you head around the structure, but it all starts with this document: http://ocportal.com/docs/codebook.pdf

I am actually in the process of customising ocusermap for my site to use google maps api v3 (its currently using v2) so that I can use marker clustering, and it has been fairly straight-forward.

ocdatamap info can be found here: ocDatamap - ocPortal .
