Check out the attachment. The bottom news scroller works just dandy in FireFox, but in Internet Explorer…. :@

Ah well, Eric,

Not long to wait until 22 October when you can get yourself the E version of Win7, and then you never need to see that sort of problem again.

But would you be satisfied, knowing that there will still be a majority using some flavour of IE 'out-of-the-box'?

Thought not …

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Interesting stats, Noob.

I think I shall go away and reassess my thinking on this. Perhaps FF has shot to the front after all and my users are not mentioning it.

I doubt that it is the case with my members & visitors (in the main, sexagenarian, septuagenarian and octogenarian) who can't be bothered with looking for something other than the browser that comes bundled with the software on their new computer. Invariably Windows and IE.

But who knows? Perhaps they are a bit more enlightened than I give them credit for …

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

I've never trusted these W3Cschools stats. Everyone cites them but there's a blatantly obvious bias there towards people who are web developers – who I think we all agree are more likely to use Firefox.
Regardless, Firefox has picked up in strength.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I didn't change the footer content except what was mentioned by you, Chris, so the flagarant text was now the news scroller. the ocPortal site footer looks fine through ie7, but mine looks horrible. Not fair!!! roflmao

There is a dev toolbar for IE7 you could try - I can't really help without getting knee deep in CSS, but with practice/experience, you'll work it out.
