If I answered something that you think should be in the documentation, please take the initiative and add it to the community documentation. We really need people to help out here and build a well-organised large support resource. |

If the pointstore isn't installed, it would be good to remove the "to spend" from the member point recap. Just state the number of points. Bob |

btw if you have group(rank) entry vaklidation based on total point is that trackeed as curently held points or all points earned. ie if 1000 pts gets me in the busy body (group or rank) but at 999 I bought a 200 item from the point store will I stilll qualify on the next page for the rank or will I now have to wait to earn 200 more points again? |

In my particular case, it's unlikely that I will have anything on offer in the near term - certainly not support or anything. Down the road, I could conceivably implement a classifieds system where points could be spent but I'd me more inclined to try to monetize that feature if I were to go with it. I guess I could sell points but that brings us back to the question of how that effects rank. My real point is that if there is no mechanism to purchase something, the points display should not include the confusing "to spend" phrase. Bob

There may be other ways of spending, or there may not, a code module wouldn't know. Best we can do is say people can customise the language strings, but to be honest I can't be bothered to do it here right now
Yep, when we get a government grant to fund our charitable activities I'm all for that Rank is based on total ever. I think it's explained in the docs properly. Btw I wasn't think pure charity or anythiing but I was thinking points earned for participation on a site where good for the site. In a way it's a personal untaxable economy or somewhat of a barter system. If I get busy releasing mods or themes or news and/or supporting end users with advice I think it would help to add to the attractiveness of the package to the community thereby attracting more end user and giving greater potential for growth and activity of the system and even possibly leading to more potential for you to line your pockets with money in other ways in the future. Otherwise what the heck is the purpose to the points in the first place why not just turn em off completey? hmm maybe your right though I should probably wait for a government grant before I helpout anyone round here or contribute some themes or code. You could be right I do have a problem with being a little too charitable from time to time. Thanks for opening my eyes to the idiocy of rewarding the contributors to my community with anything that might encourage them or say thanks for their efforts cause I almost included this feature in one of my sites I was trying to develop. I owe you one! |
