ocPortal Tutorial: Comcode and the attachment system

The last link, "Comcode User-guide", under "See also", returns a broken link. :)

Thanks for letting us know :).

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

WOW Joe just took a look at the site in your siggy good job.

I noticed you have the drop down menus.
I struggled for months trying to get those to work but gave up as I just could not find what css entry was messing them up.
How did you get them to work?

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

It's kinda hard as I've rewritten the entire TOP.tpl template, but I'll give this my best shot. The tabs obviously replace the default links at the top, and aren't automated like the default ones are. The way I have it, I must go in the template and add links every time I create a new zone. But in my case it's still worth it because I don't create any zones. :P

Not sure if you thought I kept the default automation, but if you're still interested I can send you the javascript code, CS sheet, and the code to put in your TOP.tpl template file. :)

ah that sounds cool I was trying to use the menu Chris told me about in a thread that should create drop downs but thats the one I never could get to work correctly.

I would not mind seeing those files at all.
Thanks.

That makes two of us Joe! The drop downs you've got are nicely done.

Dropdown CSS
Dropdown Javascript Source

Upload these and link them inside your header (<head></head>) section. As for the code below, I put that after <div class="global_top"> in the TOP.tpl template file.

Code

<div id="admin" class="anylinkcss">
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/adminzone/">Site Managing</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/adcmds">Commands</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/adcmds/misc/main"><small>--></small>Main</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/adcmds/misc/rcon"><small>--></small>RCON</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/adspawns">Car Spawns</a>
</div>

<div id="forums" class="anylinkcss">
  <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/forum/index.php">Index</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/forum/?action=help">Help</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/forum/?action=search">Search</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/forum/?action=profile">My Profile</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/forum/?action=pm">My Messages</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/forum/?action=mlist">Members</a>
</div>

<div id="rules" class="anylinkcss">
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/server_rules">Server Rules</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/rules">Website Rules</a>
</div>

<div id="guides" class="anylinkcss">
        <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/help">FAQ's</a>
        <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/irchelp">IRC Help</a>
        <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/irchelp/misc/icechat">-> IceChat</a>
        <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/irchelp/misc/mirc">-> mIRC</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/player_colors">Player Colors</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/standoffs">Standoffs</a>
   <a class="tab" href="{$BASE_URL}/pg/robbinglevels">Robbing Levels</a>
</div>

Add DIV's for each tab and be sure to give each DIV ID it's own name. Inside each DIV, be sure to include the dropdown links. Now to display the actual tabs:

Code

<div id="toolbar">
  <ul>
    <li><a href="#" onClick="return clickreturnvalue()" onMouseover="dropdownmenu(this, event, 'admin')"><span>Admin</span></a></li>
    <li><a href="#" onClick="return clickreturnvalue()" onMouseover="dropdownmenu(this, event, 'forums')"><span>Forums</span></a></li>
    <li><a href="#" onClick="return clickreturnvalue()" onMouseover="dropdownmenu(this, event, 'rules')"><span>Rules</span></a></li>
    <li><a href="#" onClick="return clickreturnvalue()" onMouseover="dropdownmenu(this, event, 'guides')"><span>Guides</span></a></li>
  </ul>
</div>

Create a new element in your global.css file ('toolbar', in my style sheet, defines the placement of the tabs). That's basically it - if you have any problems, let me know I'd be glad to help. :)

I originally had a plan to implement the tabs into the forums as well, unfortunately the forum template files are mixed PHP & HTML, and I don't know a thing about PHP so I was totally confused in the process and just gave up. :P

Ah I tried to at one time use the built in dropdown menu from IPB on ocportal but the 2 systems are very different so could not get that to work either.

Any way your idea works and when I do the major update on opg I will put this on it.

Thank you very much. And good job.

Oh you use smf for this site I see. There is a drop down menu add on I found when looking for things for my new site.
