Site completly stuffed up after update attempt.

Get this message.
site/pages/html_custom/EN/download_tree_made.htm

This file doesn't exist so really not happy. I downloaded new version and uploaded it over the original content hoping it would fix it but made no difference.

Found that you had to update from here. So site totally @#$%%$# up now just getting errors like

Hello,

You will need to restore from backup.

It is very important to upgrade following the proper process because when you run through the Setup Wizard it customises what addons are there, then if you upload everything (or a new release's changes) back manually it will create an inconsistent state between the database and filesystem. We do put notices about this on the download page, and in the upgrader tutorial.

The errors pasted here seem to be due to a partly uploaded file, and then what we'd expect from incorrectly installed addons.

The original message, "site/pages/html_custom/EN/download_tree_made.htm" looks like it may have been part of an error message, but we'd need to see the full error message to advise.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

We say in upgrade instructions, and the process in the upgrader, to always take a backup before upgrading. The actual process of restoring would depend on the mechanism the backup was taken with.

If you didn't take one, and don't take regular backups, you'd be relying on whatever your webhost might have, and what they're willing to restore. I'm afraid I can't help there, you'll need to contact them.
