Hi, when attempting to sign up as new user, clicking on the 'join here' link only takes you back to the main screen?  please help and thank you in advance

On your site, or this site?

Is the "main screen" the closed site screen, or the welcome zone start page?

Does it take you back as soon as you click the link?

What is the URL when it takes you back? (i.e. does it say it is the join page in the URL, but it just isn't)

Did you install as "no forums or members"? (in which case that explains it, there'd be no join page for ocPortal to link to [probably the main_greeting block should not display in this case, I'll look into that])

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

wow, thanks for quick repsonse!

On your site, or this site? my site

Is the "main screen" the closed site screen, or the welcome zone start page? welcome zone start page

Does it take you back as soon as you click the link? yes, takes me straight back to welcome page

What is the URL when it takes you back? (i.e. does it say it is the join page in the URL, but it just isn't)  takes me back to URL >> http://www.xxx.xxx/index.php

Did you install as "no forums or members"? (in which case that explains it, there'd be no join page for ocPortal to link to [probably the main_greeting block should not display in this case, I'll look into that])  I installed using an automated installation program available through my hosting account (hostmonster) I cant recall being given that option - can I change it through the admin section?

apologies for the newbie questions

cheers

Another user asked about the host "installing it wrong" recently, but I just assumed it was a manual mistake. Do you see a name for the app installer on the hosting? Most hosts actually use an app installer system, even if they white-label it. E.g. softaculous? We might need to contact them and get them to repackage it.

I suggest installing using our quick installer. It's very easy.

I have checked how the 'no forum or members' option works and it does include these join links when it shouldn't, so that's going to get fixed. But you really don't want this kind of install.
