Just thought I would post an issue I have been having lately (last day or 2) When trying to login here from the Forums Home using the Login form at top of page it seems to just sit there stalling out a long time. I can login into the site by going to the Home page and using the Login link in the footer which takes me to login page. If I try the login link in foooter while in the forums home it also stalls out.

The urls as represented by those links are:

Home: https://ocportal.com/login.htm?redirect=http%3A%3Aslash%3A%3Aslash%3Aocportal.com%3Aslash%3Astart.htm%3Fredirected%3D1

Forums: https://ocportal.com/login.htm?redirect=http%3A%3Aslash%3A%3Aslash%3Aocportal.com%3Aslash%3Aforum%3Aslash%3Aforumview.htm

Thanks for the info. I think something on the server is interfering with SSL. We recently installed a new SSL certificate and I plan to debug this later this evening.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks again for the heads up.

Turns out it was mod_spdy. We'd installed it on the server ages ago and I'd forgotten about it. It probably never worked, but I think it requires ssl and we weren't using that till now. When ssl was being used, and if it had not already mapped a non-spdy socket to the server (via a prior http request), it was killing the apache thread for the request, lol.

You're most welcome! I usually don't report these kind of issues right away in case it's network trouble or you might be updating things etc but when it keeps up for a day or 2 I figure maybe its a new hidden issue that needs attention.
