This might already be doable but I wanted to check. We currently allow anyone to download high-resolution images for personal use. I want to tighten that up a bit and require that a person must first register to download. I suspect that is all dealt with in permissions.

My question is does the downloads system track downloads on a per user basis? If not, I was thinking of doing $0 products so I could track, but would I run into a problem with a $0 invoice. Would the invoice still be required to go through the payment processor (thus incurring a fee)?

Any help would be appreciated.

Theoretically you could use the addon I put onto the tracker that bridges the point store and ecommerce (you know about this one). You would add a pointstore product to buy access to a particular download category. Yes $0 products should bypass the payment processor.

I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Thanks, Chris.

I had not thought of that approach (point-store). Would this let me track "purchases" per user?

Thanks for your help.

Yes. It's layered.

At core, ocPortal supports member permissions.

The only frontend to this in ocPortal is the pointstore (we don't feature it in the admin UIs for usability/simplicity reasons). There's a pointstore management UI for defining what permission products may be purchased.

The purchase-whatever addon we released is built on top of the pointstore functionality. It takes the same config but makes it available in the commercial store.

Ultimately I hope we can merge the commercial store and pointstore in a properly elegantly way some day.

Yes, I remember that bridging the pointstore and eCommerce sore was the bit left undone for feature item 263 –  0000263: Purchase to Download - attach downloadable files that must be purchased before downloading - ocPortal feature tracker – should anyone feel inclined to provide some sponsorship.
