This is the question!

I honestly hate CAPTCHA. Especially when it comes to some of the major sites and their "advanced" forms of CAPTCHA, which basically means I have to guess and fail. I have noticed that in my own personal life I have started to pull away from sites, or signing up with sites, which require very hard CAPTCHA procedures to be met. If I fail once at getting through their form of CAPTCHA, unless I "need" something I am moving on to other sources or sites.

Nice thing about ocPortal is when CAPTCHA is enabled it comes as a simple and easy process, but a process no matter what which gives the opportunity for a member prospect to up-tail and move on. As a test I am starting to forgo CAPTCHA in hopes to see if membership will increase or if spam will increase.

In the last couple weeks I have been searching for new ways to replace using CAPTCHA or directions with developing a new approach. I am basically still at square one, but wanted to hear what other ocPortal users had to say and their thoughts. What started me on this quest was seeing a Chris Pirillo (lol hate him or love him ;) ) Tube video which I will put in this thread:

Here is a good CAPTCHA moment:

Only if you could harness a page refresh action as input for qualifying as CAPTCHA.

They are thinking up some things over at stackoverflow:

I too really hate captcha. Sometimes, and especially for my parents, it is actually unreadable!

I hate them too but I hate more the mess that ensues when not using them. This was a few years back on an e-commerce site and the comment spam was just horrible so we went back to using the annoying things.

I actually prefer the question/answer type better and I think it is easier for people to deal with but I suspect the ne'er-do-wells will soon have this cracked too.
