Chris-

I noticed you gifting Viewfindr for suggestions to tidy up feature sponsorship. Can you share those suggestions or will they just be implemented soon?

As I've mentioned before, one thing I wish for is doing away with the cost in dollars (or local currency, if that is how it works). The "local currency" of the tracker is credits and the cost of a credit is established at the time of purchase of that credit.

I know you like the idea of providing an easier understood currency but it seems to be not working and is just wasted effort. For instance, the Multi-categorization feature was priced at $904 and change last week but today is listed at over $913 in spite of the fact that the British pound has weakened against the dollar. Then, when you click on the price, you get yet another price ($911 and change) in the exchange rate calclator. Just drop the local currency so that people will focus on time and the credits which they need to buy in order to sponsor items.

Also, what is "Funding sponsorship (theory)"?

Also, please give some consideration for the following tracker item(s):
0000387: Add a "Sponsored" tab to the tracker front-end - ocPortal feature tracker
0000407: Add tab to Feature Tracker for sponsored items - ocPortal feature tracker

These are actually duplicates and one should be closed.

They were done last night. As it came in an email I can't really copy&paste it (standard privacy) but maybe Viewfindr will. No time to bullet point it. Basically tidied up some copy though and linking.

My previous point on this stands ;). But it doesn't let you type it in in currency on the tracker end now.

Those fluctuations are 1.45%, fairly negligible ;). I think for most of the tasks I could cause a similar fluctuation in cost by deciding to have a larger sandwich for lunch  (just a joke, I don't factor lunch into the hour times ;)).

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Looks like Mantis was being buggy and miscalculating the sponsorship total, and making that really confusing. Those bars should be the same, given you have the credits required to back up the sponsorship there. I've patched around the Mantis issue.

I've closed one of those tracker issues.

Well, I guess I will just respectfully disagree on the local currency bit. But since you know your customers better than I do so, perhaps I will just acquiesce.

Thanks for cleaning up my mess with the duplicates.

I actually do not have backing credits for this project once my credits are applied to other full-funded projects. I am assuming that means that when you use those credits, the "Funding progress (theory)" would remain the same based on my pledge but that the "Funding progress (paid up)" would drop to reflect the actual credits I have left. This won't matter much as I will be buying the backing credits soon (well, as soon as I feel that the dollar/pound exchange rate will no longer  continue to favor the dollar).

I was mostly just interested since I was hoping there was some mystery sponsor helping to reach the goal. Perhaps we will yet have some others step up with sponsorships, even if they are small.

Since you wake up at 10:30 that would be considered breakfast prices!
