Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS, which is now in beta. ocPortal 9 will be superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to compo.sr for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

I think we are all aware of the recent release of ocPortal v9-alpha1. This is a tremendous milestone in the improvement of the ocPortal platform. You can download and install this test version on your server by going to ocPortal Version 9 alpha1 (bleeding-edge) - ocPortal.com.

If you are not able or willing to install the test version on your server, we are fortunate that HarryS has set up a test server at ocp9a.wphosting.nl . This is another way to test this version with a minimal of effort.

I think that it is important to consider the changed in design and theming with particular emphasis on the new templates and especially the new CSS. Chris has noted that they rarely ever break compatibility with themes so this is a once-in-a-five-year opportunity to get your suggestions in and have them possibly implemented.

Finally, there is that other progress. With all the attention focused on v9, I think it is valuable and important that the developers fix whatever bugs appear in the stable v8 branch….and they have. It is quite enlightening to occasionally visit the full issue tracker (Tracker main page)  with particular attention paid to the list of resolved items, many if not most of which are fixes to the current version.

Chris and his team are doing an enormous amount of work to make sure that ocPortal stays ahead of the competition and I hope that all of us users will do what we can to report bugs and to test the alpha version of v9 so that the developers can make whatever adjustments are necessary early on rather than scrambling to patch code at release.
