A forum for users to show off their ocPortal sites.

One reason I am suggesting it is not only will it highlight ocPortals diversity in design and implementation but it can also serve as a guide to new people on posibilities of utilization. For instance I am trying to decide what might be some of the better ways to work with catalogues and or galleries. I would like to see how others have chosen to implement these features. I have looked at Bobs using the catalogue in his site in tabular format. I like that he has more field control but I am not super keen on the the method of information display. However I do like the lightbox being allowed to the image.

Now I have also seen fletch who has a small implementation of the gallery as a comparison.
Viewing his I like the slideshow posibilities  but I also miss the lightbox effect for smaller images as seen in Bobs. I suppose I could probably find an easy way to add that feature even through the basic comcode or tempcode or something I don't know yet but either way having more sites to look at I could garner more posibilities quicker and/or find a way to evolve from choices seen.

So as I say I think a forum here (Easily found on main forum page!) would be beneficial to many people in many ways. You guys should add one! ;)

Oh to be able to truly marry the display capabilities of the gallery with structured content. Oh wait, that's what tracker item 134 does. Who's going to join me in helping to share the cost?

And, yes, the gallery probably should have the lightbox - at least as an option.

Back on-topic, isn't that the intent of the "Post your site" sub-forum beneath "Introduce yourself. I agree this needs to be made more prominent.

I agree though, it needs to be made easier to locate. I mean, if you didn't go to introduce yourself, and weren't paying attention once inside that forum, you wouldn't even notice the sub-forum.

I'd like to suggest that this forum be moved into the main forum index, perhaps in a new General category, with the General Forum and like forums placed there with it.

Here's another layout, designed by one of our members, friendly,  that I have always found appealing!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Yes, Friendly's gallery is very nice indeed *nods*

*Corrected misspelled name… sorry Friendly, not sure how I managed to do that… I suppose my left hand got over eager there lol.

BTW- it would be oh so nice if spell check would actually work in the full editor box. Right now it shows me misspelled words, but right clicking lets me only copy, cut, or paste lol.

Hmmm I'll have to try that. Not sure why crtl never occurred to me when it is used to cut, copy, and paste in the WYSIWYG editor (and elsewhere). But next time I am in that editor view, and I see one of those trollish red squiggly lines, I'll give that a try! Thanks!

I wish I had seen the original spelling Mythus! All good will here. I miss the spell check too.

I also agree the POST YOUR SITE topic needs higher visibility since one of the first things prospective ocPortalites want is to be inspired by the well designed sites others have made.

LOL, it was simple, the "e" made it in before the "i", so if you could imagine: "Freindly". which actually isn't as bad as say if the typo was forgetting the "r" lol  :ninja:

:offtopic: Oddly enough, my real name is friend and back in school my buddies called me fiend often enough, later even my grand father-in-law would call me mr. fiend. So I guess it could be worse!

Still, I never developed those blinking and glowing

I like Friendly's Gallery indeed. Nice layout. Thanks for the links folks and come to think about it I had seen that forum before but forgot it exsisted! lol There is so much info all over the place on this site and not all of it is very easy to find (at least in a completely standar logical sort of sense sometimes) and I often forget where I've seen something before and how to get back there. As you can see I even forget that I've seen it too! lol

Anyway something like this should be more prominent indeed. As I said in another post before I think that all sub forums should be labeled somewhere from the home root too. It's a PITA trying to find under which forum something you saw before existed.

P.S. I think I am blind where's this dang spell checker you guys mentioned?

Agreed that making things easier to find will help existing users but, more importantly, potential new users.

One trick now that it's fixed is to use the bookmark capability to mark items of importance in the forums (or elsewhere on the site). Check that little star at the bottom of the page.

It should ask you for your password - after entering your password you should see a menu that includes add and mange bookmarks as well as a list of any pages bookmarked.

I agree about the bookmarks menu being too narrow. It gets cluttered real quick if you make much use of it.
