Well-settled

Hello,

I experienced several issues during testing OCPortal, especially working with editor and attachments (you can find described issues I entered into the tracker system)

However, it seems that OCPortal is really a great piece of art so I will try to make my contribution. For now just as a QA and later, if I conclude that ocp is able to satisfy my needs, even translating it and developing my own changes because I am planning to create several community oriented sites.

I added a suggestion for new attachments uploading/inserting logic into the tracker on link  0000279: Suggested feature: Changing logic for attachment - ocPortal feature tracker

I am interested in your opinions about this feature so please add your thoughts after reading.

Thank you,

MitraX

I think that is a great suggestion actually. I always hated how since I have pop-ups disabled on my browser, it opens as a background tab that I am not always aware of.

I had also always secretly wondered why there couldn't be some sort of 'hosting functions' for the gallery, ie, the gallery could provide comcode tags so that you could imbed images you put in the gallery in posts and cedi entries on the site. But I never worried to much about it.

But anyways back on topic I approve of this enhancement. So when do you want to get started making this change? ;)

Like ocPortal? Want to thank Chris and gang somehow? Then help out in the chat room! It really needs your help! Just open it in a tab everytime you open your web browser, and when you hear a "ding", check it out!

You don't need a special comcode tag for that. Just use the normal add image feature and use the URL of the existing image.

While I appreciate your comment, that isn't the same. I already know of.

What giving the comcode tags would do for it is this:
Provide an easy means for members who aren't technically savy to share their images in the site (posts, blog entries, etc)

Provide an easy means for members to share their gallery entries with people/places outside of the site should they desire to (especially since most comcode tags for images are the same as bbcode tags).

Provide thumbnail tags.

There are plenty of reasons to have comcode tags for the gallery, and yes it primarily leans towards those less savy… which with ocPortal's usability crusade should be something of interest. As I stated above…

But I never worried to much about it.

Well that is because a.) I am more or less technically savy enough to make use of urls in IMG tags, and b.) I actually prefer just uploading the image to where I want it anyway. AS I said, I was just wondering why that function don't exists when it does in other gallery offerings and gallery mods for other CMS offerings.

Don't know about other CMS', but I actually prefer that ocPortal doesn't because it prevents other sites from 'leaching' images off my site. And if its for internal site only use then I think it borders on screen clutter because it is not something that I would expect to be used much excepts possibly by staff.

But if you want that functionality, that's easily done by adding a few lines to GALLERY_ENTRY_SCREEN.tpl . If you want me to do that for you just let me know in a new thread (we've hijacked this thread enough).

Actually, I have already started digging into the code in order to figure out how to implement the feature. I am going to keep the topic updated with new information.
