To have your downloads page display as your main page, you would configure an ocPortal redirect by going to Adminzone>Structure>Redirects. Under the New redirect... section, the From Zone column can be left at Welcome, the From Page column should be set to start, the To Zone column can be left at Welcome (if that is the Zone where you have your downloads page), the To Page should be set to downloads, put a checkmark in the box at the end of the line to make it a transparent redirect (meaning, the URL in the browser address bar will show as the web site main index page instead of the downloads page), and then click the Save button. It should look something like this:

And, yes, ocPortal does support mobile devices.

Couple of notes here on alternative techniques…

1) You can also edit the welcome zone to change the default page to downloads. Make sure the "Single public zone" configuration option is enabled though, otherwise you do need to mess with redirects.

2) You can use the main_download_category block (or other blocks, like main_top_downloads) on the front page, if you just want to merge the data into the layout.

I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

The whole idea of permalinks is a bit bizarre to be honest, as any decent system doesn't keep changing links around. Every link in ocPortal is a permalink, so I'm not sure why blog software needed to invent such a term. If you rename something the old links still work, with an automatic redirect.

However I'm afraid we can't maintain links across imports, we don't have any special support for that. I suggest you make a list of the top 30 pages on your site and manually write some redirects out for them in your .htaccess file.
