Hi

Need some more advice from you…..I am building a site that will have thousands of posts and "attachments" with these posts……Song names to be specific ……

Is ocportal's "Search " engine robust enough to search only "Attachments " for a name ? if so, can you show me how to set this up so it can always be used?

Thanks

Ron

Hi,

ocPortal's search doesn't cover attachments. However, it does cover the contents of downloads in the download system, which can be searched separately.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Hi Chris

Does this mean:
  1. Create a post and upload all the attachments
  2. Inside the post message are, somehow work the names of the attachments there
Now create a search by looking in the attachments for words

Hi,

No, I'm saying attachments don't support search at all.

Look into the ocPortal download system, it's something completely separate to the forum. Dig around and I think you'll see what I mean :).

I agree with Chris. Using the downloads system might be better for you in case you decide to purge posts as well. Plus it'll keep it more organized and is 'searchable'.
