Hi all,

Now that version 7 of ocPortal is released, our Wikipedia page needs updating. However, the development team should not edit it, so we need a volunteer :).

Thanks.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Possible idea: we make it a group effort from here, that is, banter the content around in a forum here first, polish it off and then one of us will plunk it on Wikipedia? I'm thinking that this way, ocProducts will always have someone(s) looking after that stuff in the event of time constraints, unavailability etc. Additionally, putting heads together should result in the best possible text…

The ocProducts/dev team will have to stay out of it including making/approving suggestions. It makes sense to me personally, as long as you are very careful to be neutral, i.e. not nuke anything negative out of the article if it is still justifiable by some, and not just give the good points. Other Wikipedia editors won't look fondly on a page-editing clique.

I think I am persona non grata at Wikipedia after getting into a word-war with one of their pompous moderators.

I'm not sure, but I may even be banned after one encounter when I suggested that a village had been robbed of its idiot when Wikipedia decided to use his services.

However, I am always willing to enter the lion's den …

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Well-settled

Haha Fletch. I think they closely monitor me after I edited the Wikipedia "Nice Jewish Boy" article and added this:

Endangered Species

Endangered Species :D

It managed to go un-modded for the weekend before being reverted back to the original article.

Not sure why they put it back to the original. I mean, I was only contributing… truth!

I would assist with this… but I already have a full plate, with some green beans and gravy spilling over… I mean, I'm doing everything I can to through on another helping of ocPortal documenting turkey on a plate well exceeding its capacity.

I can probably help out once I upgrade to version 7 and get a bit more familiarity with ocPortal.  I already can think of a few improvements after just glancing at the Wiki article.

Anyone want to link ocPortal into a new 'Implementations' section of:
Schema.org - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
as we are the first CMS implementation (our announcement) can be cited.
