The v8 announcement included this bit:

The ocDataMap addon (Google Map for catalogues) is now much more configurable.

Hoever, the version number for this add-on is still 7. Should this version be iterated or were these changes made after v7 was released and just formally accounted for now?

Where do you see it say v7? I might be having amnesia, but as far as I recall non-bundled addons are only versioned according to what their modules/blocks say, and this block is versioned at 2.

Truth be told we're not very good at communicating changes in the non-bundled addons, or tracking versions. The version numbers in there are really just for upgrade code to track, and between version numbers new features are often added, or bugs fixed.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

It's the version shown in the add-ons screen:

Nevermind…fixed by re-importing add-on. I thought I had tried that, maybe in a previous RC.

Hmm, I guess we do have versions then, lol. I forget as these are all automatically packaged by a script which I rarely need to go into.

The joys of automation. It's funny to watch people when you ask for a phone number…no one remembers it. They need to check their phone.

35 years ago I could easily remember 15-20 phone numbers and never hesitate citing one when asked for it. Now, at 50, I can't even remember where on my phone to even look for my number.

It's funny – just this past March, some of my relatives were visiting and were surprised that I still remembered the street address and phone number of an aunt when I was eleven. I was only living in the area for 9 months but always remember all 11 of my mom's siblings phone numbers. But ask me what I ate yesterday and I am like a deer in the headlights.

I used to laugh at my mother when she would forget those easy things. Now she laughs at me. Payback I guess.
