Hi Guys,

I will not longer use ocP for the photo site, users found it to difficult to use. Also they wanted a more photographic solution with a easier handling.

That will not say I leave ocPortal, but not come every day visit here. Its a great community who I don;t want to lose.

Greetings.

Harry.

UPDATE:
My decision was wrong. So I stay…

Hi Harry,

Please would you give some specifics about what users found hard.

We can then look at resolving them, or readers can see that the issues might be specific to your kind of site.

Just saying you're moving on for negative reasons, it hurts the project. Feedback on the other hand, that helps.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Chris, its not negative to ocP as system. But many of my users wanted a more easier system specific builded to presentation their Photos, without all the other stuff. Also the big complain I got was the way how the galleries are working, Yes I know it is how the system is work, For me it was working, for my users seems not. I had the choice leave it, and lose members or search for something that comes to them.

We use now the following script : PIWIGO its a gallery system, but has a plugin for community albums. Its easy to use not more then that.

I will follow the design of ocP, hopely I can use it fast again with a another project.

Regards,

Harry

So a cleaner focus on photos, fewer other features, perhaps having some features for image editing/filters.

It does make sense, I do understand and in fact I also advise people to pick the system best tailored to their needs. I just didn't want a topic here without the reasoning, because people will come and read too much into it ;).

Oh Harry YOU CANNOT LEAVE!!! You've been a very important member of this community for some time.  I understand the needs of your particular photography site might be better served with a different product for now but you need to open another website with ocPortal and start learning to customize the gallery to look the way your users want so you can still hang with us! Listen I am in hospital I don't need this depressing news right now! hehe just teazing you bud! I wish you the best but really do hope you find a way to return one day. You have been a large contributor in the community.

Yes, more specific items to photopresentation. More security how to view and using photos, possibilty to see pictures posted within some days and so more. :)
