The New AMD: A Processing Powerhouse

On October 25, 2006, AMD and ATI joined forces in a transaction that combines AMD's technology leadership in microprocessors with ATI's strengths in graphics, chipsets and consumer electronics. The result is a processing powerhouse: a new competitor, better equipped to drive growth, innovation and choice for its customers in commercial and mobile computing segments and in rapidly-growing consumer electronics segments.

Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California with centers of excellence around the world, the new company has a combined workforce of approximately 16,000 employees. This transaction breaks new ground for both companies and is expected to provide increased customer benefits in four key technology areas:
This is really disapointing.
I mean the worse Graphics card makers with the worse support joining with the best processor thats just not right.
I think I will switch to Intel.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

I'm hopeful that AMD will improve ATi's offerings, but in the meantime I'll stick with using AMD processors and nVidia graphics cards.

ya they have good Processors and I do also like nvidia.
I was happing ATI would have gone out of busness long ago. I had a card made by them it was the worse graphics card I ever owned and when I tried to get support for it that was even worse.

I've used both nVidia and ATi hardware in the last few years, and have to say that I find ATi the best, especially for the cost.

Then again, I much prefer Intel processors, so I'm in a mixed bag like Amy is!

Ya its confusing. I did try ATI like I said and it was the worse card I ever used, intel processors for the games I play are not much good for that.
They are fine for web development though.

I think one of the primary problems with the different brands is that it's rare to have enough money to be able to build and compared both at the same time.

I would love to buy two top-of-the-line computers, one with Intel and one with AMD processors and see which I prefer. As I cannot do this, I 'stick to what I know' which is that Intel processors are fast, stable, and have served me well for a long time!

There are many who would say that about AMD, I mean being fast and stable.
I posted this on Novell's forum and they were saying AMD is better as it supports the open source and Linux community so they were saying this will help in the fight against intel.

What do you mean by 'supports'?

That's really a matter of personal preference, and nothing to do with the functioning of the different chips.

Your both right.

I have found AMD processors much better performers then Intel ones, especially when rendering high poly CGI scenes or other multimedia and ATI cards are much better on backwards compatibility with older games like the much loved Star Trek Armada :D.

The ATI support, from what Ive experienced has gotten better and All 3 (nVidia, ATI/AMD and Intel) are doing their bit to have their hardware supported in linux.

I just wish both CPU manufacturers would get their heads together and start using the same sockets for their cpus like they did for he old Socket7s :hehe:
