Well-settled

I've finally got my ocPortal site going...

Howdy everyone!

No doubt you've seen me puttering around here asking for advice, learning, and then making a new round of mistakes.  Even though I had never built a website before, I knew when I began this project that I wanted to create something that had, in the words of one of my members, some "character" (thanks Chris!).  I think that I have accomplished that more of less, albeit at a price of significant delays and even greater effort as I learned how to create what I had envisioned.  So without further delay, I'd like to announce that The Political Voice.org is now formally launched!

The Political Voice (TPV.org) Website/Portal

The Political Voice (TPV.org) Forum

I'd like to welcome feedback and, of course, encouraged anyone interested to come on over and participate!

All the best, Aaron/PoliticalVoice

Well-settled

Howdy everyone!

After a very nice beta-period and a decent amount of really good feedback I am very, very pleased to announce the launching (or, in this case, re-launching) of version 1.0 of The Political Voice.org!

We have made a number of additions to the site to make it a smoother, faster, friendlier experience.

  • A brand new welcome page that explains much of what TPV is about and what is offered on the site.  This is not an annoying Splash page, but a bonafide introduction to the site for those who are new to TPV.

  • There are now two more forums: Environmental Politics and Disability & Politics.

  • The menu system has been expanded and refined.

  • We now have international news feeds, blogs, and political humor feeds.

  • We've added games and other fun things to do (with more to come soon).

  • TPV now has an array of tools and resources to aid anyone who wishes to debate politics, or simple to surf the internet.

  • And there is more….. so come over and check us out!!!

Please do stop by, write something in the new guestbook, place an icon on one of our new guestmaps, and please do let me know what you think of the new site!

All the best,
Aaron/PoliticalVoice

Hey Slam, I'm very sorry that I hadn't replied.  I've only recently begun back on reading the forums here and working on my site and I didn't notice your message.

To answer your question, yea, most of the work is my own, although I had to ask A LOT of questions of the guys here and have my hand held quite a bit.   :$   I also solicited a pair of drivers from the ocPortal team, although I've only really used one up to this point.

In the end it wasn't as hard as it looks, but it took alot of time.  My feeling–at least with the version I was working with back then–was that the learning curve was farily steep, but if you made the investment then you'd have a serious amount of power at your disposal with ocPortal.

Can I offer some help or anything?

All the best!
