You are not using the inbuilt forum system (OCF), so this module can not function.

I've done 7 installs since yesterday & can't get the 'ocf forum system' installed that its requesting. I'm using Bluehost & after uninstalling I clean out all the public_htm directory associated with that install as well as the related database.

I have another site on the server and I was experimenting with a KIJIJI type community swap shop using catalogs & user membership. Seemed to work well!

Thought I would try one more time before I post this. I'm at a 7.1.6 clean install right now install & anything related to forums is producing errors. Just doesn't exist. Never had this issue before.

Will wait to see if there are any suggestions.

Don't want to give up!

Hi,

This is a problem with Simple Scripts. They've now updated their ocPortal installer, but I don't know how webhosts update their copy of Simple Scripts.

You're best off using one of our official installers.

Regards,
Chris

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

I've tried installing Version 8 & 9 using ocPortal's own installers, but it keeps giving me the error that I do not have permissions for the database. I do!

Been chatting with Bluehost & they have tried doing the install, but get the same message. They can't get around it.

Any other suggestions out there?

In cpanel there is a big usability issue that you don't realise you need to add a MySQL user to a MySQL database.

Additionally in many control panels it is hard to realise that the quoted database and user names actually a prefixed. E.g. you may add a DB/user called 'test' and it might actually be called 'accountname_test'.

I did all that Chris. I set up the database, the the user, etc using exact parameters of an earlier install.

Bluehost claims that everything is fine and I'm entering everything as it should be. They even tried doing a version 8 & a version 9 install for me, but it will not go beyond step 4 in the installer.

Returns error: "Could not cot connect to database server" with a 309.

Versions 7.1.6 will not load the OCF_FORUM, & neither will the upgrade to version 8.

I'm stopped :)

It looks to me that if other have no problems with any version there is, that something on the server configuration is wrong or wrong setting in mysql.

my2 cents to this.

I have no idea! Relying on the experts for this one.    I'm kind of left hanging right now.

Maybe I should email the discussion to ocPortal & see if anything jumps out?

If you'd like me to take a look please open a free support ticket:
ocPortal.com - Contact us

And include the details to log into the hosting control panel, and the install settings you want.

I do doubt there is a bug, given no one else has found one and code hasn't changed. If there is one I'd fix it, otherwise I'm just curious what you're all doing wrong .

It would only be proper to post a huge kudos to Chris for correcting my s****d mistake :) My only advice after this experience is to get up and walk away when you're tired. Tenacity sometimes has its drawbacks.

Do tell!

We could all do with some 'light relief'!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!
