Now that ocPortal's forum has been released and the WoWbb driver is available.

Now the ocPortal has released their own forum, and also now that the WoWbb driver is availabe and users from the board are coming over, I think it is time to a new forum poll.  Basically, what forum do you use with ocPortal?  Comments?

I use IPB and unfortunately since I also use some other programmes that also use parts of IPB, I'll be using IPB for a long time yet :)

Well, so far, it sounds as though IPB has been a pretty popular starting point for ocPortalites.  How does the new ocPortal message board compare to more established ones?  I've looked at it some myself, but as most of you know I'm pretty much enamored of WoWbb.  And speaking of WoW, where are all of those WoW users? We gotta make our voices heard!

Kidding aside, I'm pretty surprised that there aren't more vBulletin users.  Isn't vB the king of BB market share?

Very well I'd say ;). It doesn't have all the various redundant options they've bloated their products with over the years (;)) but it does have a large number of innovative features they don't have, as well as good implementations of the important ones.

I'm pretty surprised that there aren't more vBulletin users. Isn't vB the king of BB market share?

I suppose one could say that phpBB and vBulletin are the 'default' forums people choose when they don't look around. That doesn't mean they're bad choices… what it means is ocPortal is not something we have strongly marketed yet, because we've been driving it forward very fast instead, hence these users may not have found us ;).

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Personally I'd place IPB somewhere between phpBB and vB. phpBB's code is getting sloppier and more security issues are coming out of the woodwork as a result. vB is waaaaaay too bloated. IPB is getting that way…

There's definitely lots of hope for ocPortal's forum software as long as the team don't do what the others do and keep thinking "Oooh, I'll just add one more feature…" ;)

Plus it's all nicely integrated :)

vBulletin 3.5.0 - It does everything I want it to do, has excellent support, and can be easily installed as "just a forum". (unlike OCF)

Hi, WoW  user here , i have managed to get the integration going. I have spent so much time geting the right theme and modiying it to how i want it to look (thanks to Altered_1 for that). I have been looking at what i can do with OCportal and i find to say in the least, its quite difficult for me as i am a novice in that arena. I am a little familiar with html and have created pages in the past, but trying to do it on oc portal its kinda going over my head. I have managed to do some modifications, so ill take it one step at a time.
what i really want to do is to modify the the menus and place them on other parts  of the main page, i would also like to integrate the gallery software i use (menalto Gallery) although thats not important. i could just put in a link.

I look forward to having a fully integrated website.

Thanks for the kudos  ;)

I use WowBB as well, but………

I have used/skinned prety much every board out there. Of all of them I would have to say that 2 come in a tie for #1

Mercuryboard
and
MyTopix

Simply for their speed - killer coding - and ease of use. They are not yet used with OCPortal, but maybe in the near future. I spread myself a bit thin at times.

My 2 cents

i use wow, i like it.

whatever it is wow just feels nice, no matter what skin is used, new members always comment on how different and refreashing the forums feel.

its also very very easy to change the look radically.

its not a CMS so of course there are a lot less files but still, it is a snap

Yay!  Getting more WoWbb users makes me feel better!  (Hmmm, I think I'd make a lousy pollster…. "do we have more yes's or no's? I want more no's!")

I personally lean toward the pluses of WoWbb, although sometimes I wish that the mod community was a little larger…

BTW, I've got a nice little announcement that I'm making tonight.  Check out this thread:  ocPortal - Forum
