I've lost my master password so I cannot get into Installation Options. Since I've been away for 2 1/2 years, I have no clue how to get this reset so that I can get in. Anyone have a suggestion.

(I looked in the docs and searched the forum to no avail)

You can just edit info.php and put a new one in in plain text, then change it within the installation options again and it will "encrypt" it.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Here's a better explanation from in-development v10-docs (tuned for v9)…

Changing the master password

If you need to log in to the upgrader, config editor, or code editor, you'll need the master password.

If you have forgotten it, to change it just edit the info.php file:

Code

$SITE_INFO['admin_password']='...';
Change the ... bit to the actual password you want. You don't need to encrypt it, just put it in exactly.

You should then encrypt your password via changing the password within the /config_editor.php script.

Thanks, Chris. I gambles (well not really since I backed up info.php) and got it working. I was just coming back to say this and to ask the name of the external editor but, as usual, you beat me to it.

Geez, I used to be able to answer these questions and now I need to ask.
