I want to set up a small blog for introducing my hand-made items on the web. Now, I'm confused about choosing the platform for starting. My candidates include WordPress, Drupal, flatpress, ocportal and b2evolution. Which one to choose? I know this is a ocportal forum so many of you may recommend me to use ocportal. If so, can you tell me why I can choose it? In fact, i have searched from a script resource site named as http://phpmatters.com/. It tolds me that ocportal is worth trying, but I still need more information to convince me.

Downloading it and giving it a try is probably the best way to convince yourself if ocPortal is right for the job. To be fair, it might offer a lot more than you need on a default install, but you can remove addons you have no need for. It does have ecommerce options if you wish to sell your hand-made items via the website.

Without knowing your exact needs I feel that trying it out would be your best bet at this point and then asking any questions you may have.

If you are wanting JUST a blog, ocPortal may be a bit too much. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE me some ocPortal in the morning, but if I were just wanting JUST a blog, I'd not use ocPortal. I'd feel like it's too much wasted power and wouldn't be able to help myself from turning a blog into something more with all of the awesome power that ocPortal gives me. In that same line of thought, Drupal may be too much for JUST a blog as well!

Now, if you wanted the ability to grow your site from just a blog into something more, ocPortal is defiently worth a look. One of the great selling features of ocPortal is that it is all inclusive. That means that you won't have to go hunting for some shady third party thing later to add a much needed feature. Chances are, ocPortal already has it, and if not, ocPortal is more than flexible enough to allow you to create it (or hire an experinced developer like ocProducts to do it for you). Not having to rely on third party modules or components or whatever greatly increases securtiy, stability and prevents feature creep from bogging down your website.

Of course, ocPortal just might not be the answer that you are looking for, so I'll echo what was said before me and suggest giving it a try and coming up with the decision for yourself.

So in summary:
If you want just a blog, no. ocPortal does have powerful blogging tools but it is so much more than just a blog that using it for just a blog is like buying a house when you only need a bathroom. Choose something blog-centric instead like WordPress.

If you want to have your site become more than a blog though, then yes. You really can't go wrong with ocPortal. For a full fledge community site, ocPortal will not fail you if you are patient enough to learn how to use it. It is stable, powerful, and very flexible.

Like ocPortal? Want to thank Chris and gang somehow? Then help out in the chat room! It really needs your help! Just open it in a tab everytime you open your web browser, and when you hear a "ding", check it out!
