ocPortal 7 to ocPortal 8 is 4 months so far, and hopefully not too long to go.

Drupal 6 to Drupal 7 was 3 years.

Oh geez - this again.

I like that there are not updates every other week and that Chris takes the time and effort to try and make things work properly right upfront. Sure there will be a few issues (especially with an update of this magnitude), but I'd say that ocPortal holds up well compared to most other open-source software.

Before suggesting that ocPortal is dead, maybe people should check the tracker (My View - ocPortal feature tracker) and the github commit log (https://github.com/chrisgraham/ocPortal/commits/master). While you're at it, maybe take a moment to review the tracker and either vote for a few items of interest to you or add your own feature requests so that others can vote on them.

If ocPortal is dead just because there were no official releases since 27/09/2011 (v7.1.5) then my site must really be rotting in the ground because it hasn't been updated since 27/05/2011 (v7.0.1) :lol:

Precisely.

And although there are features/fixes in versions up to v7.1.5 that I want, they are hardly show stoppers and can wait.

I don't automatically/blindly upgrade version. There has to be a decent benefit for either myself or my users, especially given that I need to spend some solid time testing the new version and making choices about how to manage all the tweaks that I have made.

Are you planning to make the jump to v8?

…I will probably wait till v8.0.1 or v8.0.2 :lol:

depending of stability feedback. In any case I won't be rushing it.

I've been fortunate enough to only meet the good kind - quick with a quip but otherwise very pleasant.

We're just a fun loving people. And yes you are lucky to have only come across the good smart*ss kind. For us locals, we come across the bad kind very frequently.

My parents owned bars and restaurants. They had one Aussie customer who was always trying to pick a fight with a regular who was from New Zealand. My dad said the Aussie guy was a real pain in the exterior (but a big spender).

I for one am glad the development has slowed down. I was getting aggrivated at the logging into my admin zone weekly and finding that I am somehow twenty updates behind…. <sarcasm/exaggeration>. It sure didn't help with my OCD with updating lol. Now I can take a breather and let the site move along and do actual site stuff instead of site updating.

Still, looking forward to seeing what the cook is cooking with v8.

Haha, I can totally understand that. I find myself checking the iPhone App Store every night before bed just to ensure that I'm all up to date. I'm such a slave to my OCD.
