Heya all,

I'm not sure if I posted this in the wrong forum, but please by all means, move if necessary. I have been thinking about a few more "Addons" (I guess you could call them) for ocPortal that I think the ocPortal community would enjoy to see in the future versions:

  • Custom Point-Store Items - Maybe we could have the ability to add custom content of our likeing to the Point-Store, available for purchase by the community of our sites.

  • Live ShoutBox - Although there is an alternative to the shoutbox I'm referring to, I'm sure others would love to see a Live ShoutBox, as seen on Invision boards. :D

  • Hosting Script - As for the hosting banner, I thought maybe that banner could link to like a module in ocPortal where users can signup for a hosting account, choose their plan, payment options, etc., and maybe have like an Administration Interface to view the submitted applications, or have the script email all the information to an email address, although some emails aren't secure as users would be sending payment information. Now I've never used eCommerce/osCommerce, but can this do that?

  • MultiMedia Database - This would be somewhat similar to what MKPortal has, for those who know what I'm talking about and have used MKPortal before. ocPortal could have some kind of media center, for uploading music, flash games, etc..We could always upload the music and flash games elsewhere, and setup an IFRAME, but an integrated Media System might be easier for those who aren't familiar with HTML, or IFRAME's.

  • Display Post Attachments Inside The Post - E.g., someone uploads an image and attaches it to the post, maybe have it somewhat like IPB and have a thumbnail image displayed in the post?

These are just a few ideas, I may add more soon. For most of these, we could just buy/download the necessary scripts, but I personally like everything "all-in-one", instead of all scattered around your website… And it would look nice if everything had the same theme, instead of downloading the necessary scripts, and having everything un-matching…

All comments are appreciated! :D

As far as I know ocp already has that attachment optioin.
The media thing can be done using the catalogue feature and yes I have used mkportal, infact I used them both on the same site at the same time and found ocPortal had more features and was more customizable.
But yes I would like to see the rest.
A few other things I would liketo see is a random cedi block and a recent cedi block.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

You can achieve this already if you know how to code PHP. Just add hooks to /sources/hooks/modules/pointstore.

  • Live ShoutBox - Although there is an alternative to the shoutbox I'm referring to, I'm sure others would love to see a Live ShoutBox, as seen on Invision boards. :D

I don't quite understand what you mean here. Could you link to an example, or something?

  • Hosting Script - As for the hosting banner, I thought maybe that banner could link to like a module in ocPortal where users can signup for a hosting account, choose their plan, payment options, etc., and maybe have like an Administration Interface to view the submitted applications, or have the script email all the information to an email address, although some emails aren't secure as users would be sending payment information. Now I've never used eCommerce/osCommerce, but can this do that?

That's a very specialised request, and not something that would really be appropriate in ocPortal, so it would best be made as an addon.

You can do this already by attaching things to CEDI posts or catalogue entries.

  • Display Post Attachments Inside The Post - E.g., someone uploads an image and attaches it to the post, maybe have it somewhat like IPB and have a thumbnail image displayed in the post?

You can change the way an attachment displays with the "Type" option when you're uploading the attachment. The options are: inline, island, download.

I was right and I will get a screen shot of the live chat as I have one on PPY.

The makers website and link to their mod is here.
D21-Shoutbox 1.2.1 -> IPB 2.1.x Modifications, Tools, and Addons. -> IPB Modifications -> Downloads

That's very similar to the chat system.

Wasnt that possible with Catalogues? I thought i remembered something like that.. But for the payment it should require some coding i think..

I have one suggestion for the catalogue system. It is to allow catalogues to also contain other catalogues (sort of like you have a boards and sub-boards on the forums). This will help people both organise their catalogues and make it easy to build up a good link level between catalogues (and use breadcrumbs).

If you want something like that, you might want to try the CEDI system. :)

Well I don't think the CEDI system allows me to enforce that my content editors fill out ceirtan fields like I can do with the Catalogue system. Thus I kind of need the best of both. Please correct me if I'm wrong about the CEDI system.

I do not think your wrong and I like your idea, it sounsd like a good one. It could even be used for things like projects.
Like say you have different types of projects.
like skins, mods, games, or any thing.
Not to mention the catalogue featue has a recent catalogue box where as the cedi does not. how ever the problem I find with usin the catalogue is I have not found a way to get it to show in the stats how many entries you have, and I would like it devided into catagories with in the stats, like say there are this many projects or what not.
