For those who remember me, I'm back.

For those who arrived here in the last 2 1/2 years, I used to be an active community member until some family health issues reordered my priorities. My mom's health issues still consume a pretty good chunk of my time; I'll not be as active as I used to be but I will try to engage when I can.

I was rather forced into re-engaging due to my hosting service going missing. I've had to move the site to a new hosting provider where things have not gone smoothly. Hopefully, we can get things sorted or else I'll be once again looking for a new host.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Thanks, guys. It's good to be back and see some familiar users (well, I knew Chris would be around). Now I'm just waiting for Fletch to chime in.

I'm well - my cancer has been in remission for about two years. My mom was diagnosed with cancer 6 weeks after I was; she went into remission but relapsed in January, 2014. She's doing okay - she's a very strong woman - but I now spend quite a bit of my day with her. It's just a more important priority than it was a short time back (until she got cancer she was walking 10 miles a day at 82 years old).

Looking forward to getting involved again; not looking forward to getting up-to-date from version 8.0. I seem to recall that version 9 broke the templates; I'll use that as incentive to give the site a makeover. Are the upgrades from 8.0 to 8.1.16 relatively hassle-free?

My first challenges are ironing out a couple of problems I'm having after the move and then it's time for some real work.

Welcome Back BobS!  We were worried as we knew about your health battles when you disappeared. It is really good to hear you are doing well and I hope your mother continues to do ok.

Thanks, Duck. I'm in remission with only a 15% chance of relapse at 5 years. My mom went into remission a month after me but relapsed 8 months later. She has ovarian cancer and will be 85 this month so it's not likely she will ever improve but she is holding her own. I'm over there at least six days a week just to make sure she is not sitting alone contemplating her future.

It's good to have you back BobS!

I'm a little late to the "welcome home" party, but this is the first I've been on in almost a year.

I'm late I know… but still Welcome back Bob! Good to see you around. Sad to hear that about your mom, but good to know that you are doing well yourself. Do try not to over do it though - you gotta stay healthy!

Thanks, guys. Good to be back. Still working on a game plan to get my site updated to v9 so I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions. But first I've gotta brush up on HTML/CSS.

I guess I'm late to the party … AGAIN!

Welcome back Bob, although I feel a bit of a charlatan referring to a 'back' that I've been missing from for some time too.

The main reason for the absence is that I've WE have moved house from the busy metropolis of Lisbon to a sleepy hollow in the Algarve. The house enjoys ABSOLUTE privacy (I could start up a nudist colony and nobody would notice …), has a huge garden that is killing me already, and an adjoining square kilometre of land that I've been invited to 'work' any time I wish (he's a joker  …!!).

The down side is that broadband hasn't arrived in Paradise as yet, however. 3G appears to be coping with my needs for the moment. 4G is apparently around the corner, but here in the Algarve, mañana is a much (mis)used word.

That's me up to date, and I shall try to drop in more frequently (gardening allowing) to exchange a few pleasantries. I haven't read all your post, so forgive me if I don't make any pertinent references - just yet. I shall, I shall …!!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Congratulations on the move to paradise, Fletch. I split time between Las Vegas and outside a small city on the Central California coast. I know where I prefer to be.
