As an Admin

I didn't see any help for this in the topics but whenever I try to change something or delete (example welcome page editing) I can't because when I try to submit it it gives me some error 0 and says I didn't fill the form out correctly. Than it tells me my user name admin is not active. Any solutions for this? I've uninstalled/re-installed still does this.

We have seen this problem as a bug on some web hosts who use something called a "reverse proxy caching server" to enhance their performance. A particular piece of software used incorrectly returns blank results as "0" instead. ocPortal then interprets that as an error code, as it thinks anything other than a blank result from the username validity check represents an error (this is how it was designed).

However, this should have been worked around on ocPortal 7.1.1, which was quite some time back.

One possibility is if actually it is not "0" but something like " 0 ". I have attached a replacement file that accounts for that possibility.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
