I'm currently testing everything to move my site papigice.net which is currently on joomla and smf 2 to ocPortal. As with everything, sometimes something gets wrong...

2 questions arised. First I can't find the backup tool, but I'm not sure where to look... It isn't like described in the tutorial...

Second, when I try to unistall like described in the tutorial (I messed something up, so I want to start all over...) I get this error:
You have gone to an URL which requires ‘posted’ data to be sent (given_password), as well as the information in the URL itself. This is most likely because you have copied and pasted a link to a new browser window, but the page the link was for was a results page for an action.

:$ For some it may be very silly questions, but I'm still getting used to the system, so sorry, there could come more of those questions...

We only recommend the ocPortal backup addon as a last resort if your hosting doesn't have a better backup solution integrated as a server tool. The addon is not installed by default by the Setup Wizard.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Diana,

I think your best solution right now is to just make sure you download a SQL back-up of the ocPortal default installation you made. If something goes wrong in the importer and you want to start fresh you can just restore (SELECT ALL TABLES AND DROP then IMPORT) the SQL file. Other than moved attachments and template caches the importer doesn't really touch any files and those previoulsy describe can be cleaned up with website tools in ocPortal.

Of course once everything is all up and running right (after import) then you'll want to do REAL backups. (Download a back-up of entire site files along with SQL backup) When we get to that point I'll try and help you figure out how to do that.

Thanks for the advice! I will do it this way when I make a new fresh install.

This time it was my own mistake, regarding something else not the importer, which causes errors now, so I think as there still isn't any data, it's easiest for me to "clean it up" with a fresh install.

No, you were the first to find the bug ;). I guess nobody usually tries to uninstall ocPortal .

In fact, it's very interesting how fast you can forget som things… I haven't dealt with a new installation of something and setting something up from the beginning for quite some time now, an now I find myself not knowing some basic things and/or making stupid mistakes… O_o

But slowly my brain gets accustomed again to this kind of work, so it can only get better!
