1) When a guest submits a 'Contact Us' form their name (from the "Your name" field) does not appear in the notification email nor on the "'Contact Us' messaging " page the email links to. That is very important information to be missing. Can we get this fixed?

2) As admin I have access to staff forum, and using "Topics with unread posts" does not show any new post from that forum. I can't seem to find an option to enable this. Is this configurable?

That looks the same error I have. I got the error: "the resource is not there" after I click the link from the email.

This is only happened by Guests.

I'm not actually getting any errors Harry, I'm just missing information from the "Your name" field.

They should display. I rely on this feature on a daily basis (I never really browse the forum index). What can happen is posts in the staff forum are less frequent so the 'post_history_days' option can become more of an issue, maybe that's it?

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Yes. In the mean time, you'll find it in the comment topic.

Nope, the post is only about a day old.
Yes.
Thanks Chris!

That actually where I noticed the difference.

There's definitely no fringe condition? One possibility I think is if that last post was a whisper, as that wouldn't bump the topic itself as unread.
I'd have a hard time debugging this one without asking for admin access to step through it.

Off-hand I can't think any fringe condition that might affect it. What's strange is that I just SU'd as one of the staff members and it is behaving as expected for them.

I think I might experiment a bit further over the next few day to see if I can narrow it down further.

Another possibility looking at the code if it you read it on the second someone else posted on it. Therefore the last post time equals the read time. I guess that's a tiny bug.

Not in this situation. It was a "contact us" and I only read it after I got the email notification.

Was the bug that you marked it unread and it then didn't show unread in the vforum, or that before you'd ever even opened it didn't show unread in the vforum, or both?

Oh also, did it show unread from the forum index, or not unread from there also?

I was assuming that it was showing unread in the indexes, but if it was neither that's a big clue.

When you view a staff message in the Admin Zone it definitely marks it read on forum also (happens for any comment topic).

Could be you didn't realise this, or also could be some other part of the code is reading it in automatically for you and incidentally (incorrectly) marking it read as a side-effect.

The latter, before I ever even opened.
did it show unread from the forum index, or not unread from there also?
Can't say that I noticed either way, I just jump straight to /vforums/unread .
When you view a staff message in the Admin Zone it definitely marks it read on forum also (happens for any comment topic).
There is a very slim chance that this was the case, but I think the order of events this time were:
  1. Received email
  2. Read email
  3. Jumped to /vforums/unread
  4. Post did not appear in unread list
  5. Navigated manually to contact us topic
  6. Read post
  7. Noticed that post had name that I didn't recall seeing in mail
  8. Went back to mail to check if name was there
  9. Saw it wasn't and then clicked post link in the mail

In any case I'm sure it has happened a few times in the past and this would have been the first time that I clicked the link in the email at all.
