I'm sorry I haven't been able to jump back into ocPortal projects as quickly as I had hoped. The chemo has really kicked my butt on although I do recover just before I start my next round of chemo (next lymphoma chemo is on Tuesday). I have been trying to keep up with the forums and the tracker so I at least feel like I am somewhat connected. I still haven't gotten around to updating my 8,1 site to 8.1.4 but hope to maybe next week.

In addition to all this and in what can only be termed a cruel twist, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer last Monday. She has been admitted to the hospital and they are supposed to do a biopsy today with chemo to follow pending the results (although the CA125 marker for ovarian cancer confirms it at at about a 90% level).

Needless to say, life is a bit hectic right now - I have 8 medical appointments over the next two weeks but then I should be a bit more available as I only need to do my two chemo session (in a three week period) plus my labs. I will also be driving my mom (if I feel possible) to here chemo sessions which are delivered over three consecutive days over a four week course and I will also be taking her for her weekly labs and follow-ups.

I am truly amazed at what has been happening with ocPortal and the contributions of Duck, Arbo and psydoc along with all the additional contribution by the regulars. I hope to rejoin that group of regulars shortly.

Sorry to hear about your mom. I knew you'd be having a hard time, but that just adds to everything for everyone :(. You all have my best wishes.

(Plus I don't want to see topics from you unnecessarily starting "I'm sorry")

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks, Chris.

I forgot to mention that I am amazed at all the fixes you been providing - it seems like you have streamlined the process.

I also forgot to mention in my post that although my mom has stage 4 cancer, her doctor is adamant that she will have a full recovery and be back to walking her 5 miles a day down the road. So all s not doom and gloom, just a bump in the road as we take a concurrent journey down related but different paths.

Commiserations on both, you and your Mum's 'condition'.

Suitable words, for me at least, are difficult and always seem inadequate. But, if positive thoughts have any value, they are directed at you.

Take it one step at a time, and when you feel like it, keep us posted.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Bob really, you have nothing to appologize for.

The rest of us, well we have to be able to catch up to you somehow right? But jokes aside, you've done more than most.

Now you just need to take care of yourself and now your mom. Don't worry, we will be here ready to welcome you back when you can come back.

Bob, I have a old highschool friend going through chemo right now, he's about half way through and no doubt it can take it's toll.   Take it easy and get healthy, that's what matters.

Thanks, everyone.

I am headed off to chemo this morning after seeing my mom struggle through a particularly painful day yesterday. They are awaiting biopsy results before starting her chemo even though even though the PET scan and CA125 biomarker for ovarian cancer put the likelihood of cancer at well over 90 percent.

I can hardly wait to get back to being involved in ocPortal - just a much more fun experience.

Thanks again for the support.
