After backing up to upgrade my site to the latest RC version, I had to revert back becuase my theme isn't compatible with the new version. I loaded my backup which worked fine last night, and....a certain table for my forum is missing. Everything on the site but the forum is working.

The error message I get is as follows:

Unfortunately a query has failed [SELECT r_member_id FROM oc_f_forum_tracking WHERE (r_member_id=2 AND r_forum_id=1) LIMIT 1] [Table 'wellspri_ocpor46.oc_f_forum_tracking' doesn't exist] (version: 7.1.6, PHP version: 5.3.8, URL: /forum/index.php?page=forumview)

Then it gives a LONG stack trace which I will not post here.

Advice?

There are various database changes, so you'll need to restore your old database.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I did that. Took a backup before my upgrade, and restored the DB from that backup. It worked fine last night when I tested the backup, but for some reason, the same DB seems to be missing that part.

All I can say really is that this table was dropped in v8, so it looks like the restore didn't work. I suppose it could be a coincidence, but it'd be a big one.

Question is, what am I to do now? I've tried restoring the DB several times now, and, still unsure why only the forum is down, yet everything else on the site is up.

I'd check the dump you have in a text editor that supports large files, to check what you're really working with. I'd also check very carefully what your restore process is, e.g. if it is really restoring it, and if any errors were missed.

As for why just the forum not working, I suspect others things also won't work – particularly adding content to galleries. It's rarely the case that we remove stuff from the database on upgrades so mostly you won't see a problem until you add something and ocPortal won't know how to fill the extra table fields. Tracking is an exception as this was rewritten.

What should I look for in the dump?

This is something I've never done before, so I'm very clueless now :\

Commands relating to the 'oc_f_forum_tracking' table.

You may be better off just upgrading to v8 and fixing your theme. The upgrader does have a theme upgrading option, incompatibilities are fairly minor after that has run.

If I upgrade now, will it fix my forum issue?

Ok, new question, I have the testing for my themes, how do I go about correcting them to be usable for my v.8 site?

Ok, so I can access the forum on upgraded version, and the theme works fine and shows up fine there, but on every other page it's giving me an error?

I won't have time to step through anything myself I'm afraid, but what error do you see exactly?
