Well-settled

Just a question; More than once have I been taken to GoDaddy's website when instead clicking on the Manage PointStore area when inside my Admin Zone. And everytime it happens I'm being alerted about the risk of infection if chosing to go to GoDaddy's website, referring to malicious software detected.

And that's one thing of course, but what's up with this re-direction to GoDaddy.com rather than to my PointStore - although not happening everytime. Is it some kind of advertising, despite ocPortal being a free tool?

Just wondering, that's all… :)

ocPortal contains no advertising, so what you're seeing is clearly in error.

Do you use GoDaddy for hosting?

Nope, I don't have any connection to GoDaddy what-so-ever! I only recall an incident when installing the 5.0.1 upgrade, and at the end of the installation process a message was dispalyed telling me that "the document has moved here", with a link to GoDaddy.com - followed by a warning!

Here's that particular post; HERE

And it can't be something from within my computer as I did a complete formatting and re-installation of my XP so…

Please run the integrity check from the upgrader. It does sound like a script virus has infected your hosting somehow. I can't really advise on this - some web hosts have insecure setups where viruses can propagate between websites on the server - or another script might have had a security hole. Your web host may be able to help.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
