What's the install directions for that ? I have gotten bluehost.com to want to install it. It is a start If someone can post all the requirements here and the optional ones too , I remember reading something about a quick compile to make OCP run faster, I cant remember the word or term? |

Also, if you enable a cache and disable a bunch of ocPortal addons it might be quicker or if you have some sort of really fast server perhaps. That is one of the things about ocPortal so far that I am not really a huge fan of is that it just feels a bit slow and laggy when I use it. Even on this ocPortal.com server which looks like its using nginx which I thought was supposed to be quicker than Apache. My live web server is using Apache with suexec all through Fast CGI and I don't know how well ocPortal would work on it but I will have to try it out and see if it goes quicker than my local machine setup here but I doubt it. |

It would be great but if ocPortal is on a Fantistico waiting list for years that doesn't seem very promising. I am personally not a huge fan of cPanel, especially after trying to use it for a massive development project awhile back. Whereas when I used Virtualmin for the same thing with its command line options it was amazing and simple in comparison to automate the creation of hundreds of Joomla websites with databases and everything. So perhaps because Virtualmin is more complex and customizable, and also, as I mentioned before, has an open source free GPL version (the paid version is also fully customizable with non-encoded source code) then maybe you will have a trickle of more programmers and people like that coming into the community to help create themes and addons and whatnot. If there are any other ways like that I can think of that I can help with I will definitely help out. |

It is. I know of two hosts that have it, Elief (the recommended ocPortal partner) and Hostgator.
Take my advice. I'm not using it!

I've been using eLief since early 2009 and quite satisfied with its cPanel Accelerated2 interface. My perspective here is that of an occasional cPanel user. However, what impresses me the most about this interface is the "Installatron" 1 click Application Installer. (Installatron is an auto-installer (or script installer) plugin for the DirectAdmin and cPanel, Plesk Linux, Plesk Windows, and custom web-server control panels.) I've had the occasion of installing ocPortal on 81 sites with it and it always performed flawlessly and speedily (average of 2 minutes for a complete install-database and all). Its ability to create backups on demand with just the click of a button and its super quick "uninstall" makes it the ideal method for neophytes to the world of web applications. I honestly do not understand why someone new to CMS would want to use a Web Host without this kind of support. Anything else is a waste of energy and time. Again, I'm speaking strictly from the point of view of someone with little to no experience with web servers, and I would think this to be true for the vast majority of CMS users out there. When I read on these pages about all the trouble that some people go through to install ocPortal and I think of my own sweet experience with it, I sometimes feel that somehow I've stumbled on something secret. |

Its a shame that after years with bluehost they tell me when eAccelerator becomes more popular they see into supporting it. Now they will have one less customer to support when eAccelerator becomes popular, Thanks again I started out with me wanting them to install OCP on the Cpanel and then I remember the recommendation on making OCP run faster with eAccelerator so I asked bluehost if they could install eAccelerator for me and they said no that I could if I wanted too, but i found out that to install eAccelerator I needed SSH witch I have and I began the install and one of the command was not working $PHP_PREFIX/bin/phpize So I called them to ask why this was not working, they asked me why I need root access? I stated they you all told me that I could install eAccelerator myself because you all don't support it, but to installl eAccelerator I need to run phpize, they said good luck with that. Now guess how that made me feel? |

Just for kicks I am looking into seeing if my host runs it. Most likely if they do, it's like Host Gator and only on their dedicated servers. |

I am looking into collocating my windows 2008 server box (game server) locally, or I may do both, collate locally and and web-host with Elief, we will see what I'll do. I am installing OCP on the server box just in case, but first I am waiting an answer to one of my questions here View topic: bitnami - ocPortal.com I can install it to see what this does from here BitNami :: ocPortal but the version on OCP is old. |
