I edited my profile in our forums, added an image to my signature (after fighting with that to work!) and now when I go back to "edit" in the profile tabs, I just get this error message:

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed Location: http://lldrepsonly.biz/ocportal/site/index.php?page=members&type=view&id=designerdiva#tab__edit Line Number 3265, Column 1:<img src="http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii245/prtygrl72/LLDsiggy.png" title="" alt="" /> ^

Thanks so much.

Hi,

Are you working out of a github checkout?

You're the second user to mention an XML error recently, and this usually only can happen if ocPortal's development mode (aka debug mode) is enabled (which turns true XHTML on, rather than HTML). That is triggered by the presence of a '.git' directory, which effectively signals ocPortal you're a developer.

Maybe some bug with the detection of development mode has slipped in, but I'd be surprised. I often am surprised though so who knows .

Anyway, to disable debug mode you can add this to the end of info.php:

Code

$SITE_INFO['debug_mode']='0';
It overrides the auto-detection.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks for such a quick response.  Actually, I have no idea where I need to put the code that you mentioned.  This is a brand new forum/site for our group, and I'm a moderator of the forums, so we're all learning.  Where should I be using this code to fix this problem?
Again, thank you SO much for your help!

Actually, I can see what's wrong now. This is a problem in 8.1.2, and I'm working on a resolution right now.

Hooray!  Thank you so much.  You're very helpful.  I still see that mine won't work, so I'm assuming you're still working on it???  There are others also, just like happened to me, that can't edit their signatures at ALL unless they're in the WYSIWYG mode.  Waiting patiently for the fix.  You're da bomb!   :P

I have no idea where these codes and things need to go/what to do with them.  We're not web developers or anything, so I'm sorry for being such a pain.  I can open the .tar, of course, just don't know what to do from there.
Sorry.
Thanks for all your time and patience.

You would upload the contents of the .tar file to the root directory of your web site and overwrite any files there.

Try this. If it is still causing you a headache, shout in here and we will try to explain in even more detail …
  • click on link for #714 ←(you indicate that you've already done this)
  • on the 'feature request/bug tracker' page scroll down to the 'Attached Files' row and download 'hotfix-714%2C 2012-07-30 9pm' to your computer ←(you indicate that you've already done this)
  • Open (unzip) the file ←(you indicate that you've already done this)
  • You should find two folders 'sources' and 'themes' with several files contained within them
  • All that is necesary is to use an FTP client to upload those two folders to your installations root directory (as Duck has already said)
  • It will ask if you want to overwrite the files on the server. Say YES.
  • You're done!

Was that of any help?
