It would be good if you could use existing images instead of having to upload new ones for eCommerce products. For instance, we allow people to download the high-resolution version of our images but I am thinking I would like to have them as products so I can track such downloads. Currently, all of these images exist in /uploads/catalogues; it would be good if we could reference these by URL in the Product screen rather than having to upload these large images twice (I would have teh same problem is I uploaded to Products and tried to use the image in my Catalogues).

I am not sure this is doable given the current field choices – I can have either an uploaded image or a URL. It would be really nice if there was the equivalent of the either/or option like there is in galleries.

Or is it possible to use the "A link to an item of 'catalogue_entry" content?

Bob

EDIT: This could also apply to the image for downloads.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I will think about this one. If I can establish a common scenario such that the image is always uploaded elsewhere, I could use the URL option in my Product catalog. That should probably be sufficient.
