stylish new presentation on your Home page

Congratulation ocPortal for the stylish new presentation on your Home page!

I found it informative and smart with elegant graphics. I particularly enjoyed the humoristic approach of the CMS choices compared panel supported by a revealing fact page.
This is a fine addition to your front page!

Couldn't have said it better, Jean!

Allow me to add my congratulations for a 'classy' home page that should encourage prospective users to "go for it", despite the whinges from a very few that want a website without the urge to put any work into it - the "WOT! NO THEMES?" brigade!

GO, team …

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

The following is something I think is worth posting here to emphasise the compatibility issues raised in the ocPortal comparison chart and elsewhere.

It is an extract from a blog post by Andrew Tetlaw of Sitepoint, and you can find it here if you really want to read a massive article on the shortcomings of plugin developers, especially those that rush to jump on the Wordpress bandwagon.

Some would have you believe that the WordPress ecosystem is a veritable Shangri-La of themes and plugins. I want to destroy this illusion: it's not. If you've had to manage a WordPress site or two you'll know what I mean when I say WordPress themes and plugins can be a labyrinth of compatibility problems and a morass of bad programming practices;  full of empty promises.

Actually, if you have a few spare minutes, you may find it rather interesting reading. But I am, of course, preaching to the choir!

P.S. The Wordpress 'tooltip' in "slide_3" refuses to display when moused over (IE9, FF4, Chrome, Opera). Probably something to do with the limitations of the div in which it is enclosed?

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

The challenge to you all: can you find all the little jokes in there?

Ah yes, I see Firefox 4 had particular problems. Should work much better now.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Yes. Visual AND textual. But will the subject (object?) of the 'barbs' get it? I guess if they're fanboyz of the 'other one's', they won't!
