doc made

Greetings,

I want to announce that I have completed my first contributed document for the community documentation project. It is a document page entitled CEDI Basics.

It can be found in the community CEDI, under Content Features & Usage. Or follow this link.

CEDI Basics - ocPortal

I would like to encourage anyone who so desires that finds any mistakes or falws in the document to edit it as needed. I would also like to encourage not only more tips and such in the pages's comments (ie posts) but also for everyone that can to make a document about something they know and understand in ocPortal. Here's hoping that we will never again have to hear of a potential user not using ocPortal for lack of documentation.

Chris and ocPortal gang, I feel that the community documentation needs more exposure. Since you already have the main official tutorials linked within the community documentation pages, have you considered just making the community documentation the link for tutorials? As it stands now it is only a small link mentioned as an after thought in the yellow box talking about tuturials in the support page. If we want people making documents and contributing documents, lets make it the main focus, ie, "in the yellow tutrials box on the support page have it be a link to the community documents CEDI syaing that theyre they can find and contribute documentation to the project and even find offical documentation, or what have you. Just a thought ;)

I'll prepare another shorthly.

Legends of Nor'Ova: A site powered by ocPortal; home of the Legends of Nor'Ova tabletop RPG wiki and community.

Like ocPortal? Want to thank Chris and gang somehow? Then help out in the chat room! It really needs your help! Just open it in a tab everytime you open your web browser, and when you hear a "ding", check it out!

I can't thank you enough, and your request has been actioned.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thank you mythus for this wonderfully clear tutorial and the suggestion to emphasize the community contributed documents. I’m guilty of not having visited that section lately and missed the information about the main official tutorials linked within the community documentation pages. I can’t wait to dig deeper into several contributed gems I just found there.

Thanks for shining a spotlight on that important support section Mythus!

Not a problem Jean, and thank nyou for all of your theming tutorials you;ve provided over the years.

I think it would be great to see those tutorials put into the community documentation. Maybe you can use the copy paste technique to make that happen?

I am going to put up some more documentation soon, focusing on the forums use and such. Just gottaq juggle the time to get it all done as unfortunately the time machine isn't functioning as I'd like it to :P.

Hey Mythus and Jean! Just wanted to let you know that I'm starting to put together a road map document for the community section that will be directed explicitly at first time members. I have all my notes from many moons ago when I first got started and will be using those as well as including direct links to pertinent FAQ and OCP docs that are beneficial to first timers.

Can someone please post up some links to existing CEDI's.
I would like to just have a look at the layout and how its displayed.

Its easy to just throw info onto it, but I  need ideas on page layout.
Mountain bike trails resource, info, maps, GPS files ect ….is what im trying to achieve.

Hi wal,

You can visit my virtual classroom

No sophistication in design here. It is part of the sites many virtual classroom features to help students gather study material to serve as reference guides.

Valid entries can range from just a few words such as "tweets", quotations, how-to articles, reference guides, and will earn community points toward the course validation. Best entries are featured on the front page through an Award block and receive additional points.

You should also look at the more clever usage of the CEDI from the literary work of Mythus: http://legendsofnorova.com/

Greetings,

Just wanted to say that I'm still here. Just without internet service right now. When my wife had to go in the hospital for a month to fight off kidney rejection, we had to make some painful cuts to keep floating, so to speak.

I hope to be back online in August. After that time I'll try to get back to work to contributing more docs.

BTW- feel free to check out my cedi at my site (follow the link in the sig) in the Saga of Ablution zone for another example as well. Some of it is members only, but other parts of it is viewable as guest. I have the links spread in three different menus, linking to sections of my CEDI system: Character Creation, Player's Guide, and Encyclopedia NorOva

Everything else is matériel (say it French) as they say!

Will look forward to your return, too!

Thanks all for your kind words, though I think that there was a slight misunderstanding lol; most likely due to me.

This whole hospitalisation took place from mid April to mid May. It was a long, and scary month watching her endure powerful meds, but they were successful, and she kept her current kidney.

The economic woes that we are making our slow march through deal with the aftermath; the hospital costs and the lost month of her pay: a large reduction in our household income. That and the need to move out of our at the time home, as it proved to be bad for her health and was unable to be remedied, caused for tough decisions to be made. One, do we stay there, risk her getting sick again, but keep all the things going, or do we move, take that extra monetary hit to move into a healthy, clean, and solid environment, thus having to axe two 'luxaries' - phone and internet, for the time being. We went with the later.

Soon(tm) we will have our phones back on, and have internet again, and all will be as was in that end, but with a better living situation to boot.

Still not something I'd wish on anybody, and it is only July now.

Will look forward to your input WHEN YOU'RE READY!

Trying to get things caught up on my site, and then I'll release another CEDI entry. As stated before, it will be a forum use one.

Out of curiosity, how many others are working on CEDI entries here? I hope I'm not the only one, and am interested in reading what was written! Plus this will help to make sure that I don't reduplicate someone else's hard work.
