Problem creating menus, Available entry points are randomly available

When trying to select menu links from the "Available Entry Points" only some of the zones will expand although the + converts to a -.

If I Ctrl F5 the browser sometimes a different set of links will expand.

If I contract the root I am unable to expand it again.

I've also created a custom Download field using the "A page link" URL type. The exact same problem arises.

Any idea's anyone?

Use the browser's developer tools to monitor AJAX requests going on. Chrome's are particularly good. If they are stalling, it's probably a problem with your web host or your connection.

Thanks Chris for such a prompt reply.

To eliminate the connection possibility I have used the browser on the web server but no change with the problem.

As to Ajax errors using Chrome's developers tools, I can see no cause/errors but this is an area I am far from competent in so I may have missed something.

The web server (IIS6 on win 2003) logs show no errors at all.

Is there another aspect of the site that would demonstrate Ajax problems if your suspicions are correct?

Thanks for your time

Hi,

I am happy to take a look. You can open a bug report ticket. Make sure enough details are provided to at least get to a screen where the issue can be reproduced.

However, what I suspect is the web server is doing some kind of throttling or request queue, and that would be outside anything I could comment on, especially for IIS. If you see the requests in the developer tool's network section not actually concluding, they have probably been stalled by some kind of setting on the server.

If there was an error, you'd probably have been able to see it in the network section, or the console section.

You can also debug by copying the URL of stalled requests and opening in a new window/tab, and seeing what happens to them. I suspect you'd find it would load.

Quick video showing me analysing the site-tree's AJAX requests:

Hi,

Thanks again for taking the time, it is very much appreciated.

Following your example, on branches that are consistently functional, the preview and responses are exactly as you describe. Where it differs is that branches that are not functional I get "1, No Properties" for the preview and just "1" for the response. If I Ctrl F5 the page I may get the same or a completely different set of branches that are functional. ALL Headers report a 200 status code (as do the server logs for the site).

I am sure you are correct when you say it's a server issue as it was rebuilt in a hurry after a raid failure and no o/s backup available (ironically all the data was available for the original discs via a Linux boot disk and a few utilities).

The server previously had 3 hobby ocPortals on it, all of which functioned perfectly. In every other respect the site runs perfectly now.

The portal that matters is a new install (although I have replaced the user database files). I would very much appreciate you having a look at it if you are willing to do so, even if it's just to confirm that it's a server issue (any pointers would be a big bonus).

The site is http://hamfiles.co.uk

Thanks again for your time

Nick

;).

I don't have access to the menu editor, site tree editor or permission tree editor. OTTOMH I can't think of a public way I can check it.

This seems to be a bug in PHP on Windows. I am working on a workaround.
