A month ago I though ok I will give it another try so I bought a copy for my desk top and put it on.
Was not to bad at first, was slower the linux but still worked.
I turned off all the annoying features like the are you sure you want to continue thing.

Any way a few things that keep frustrating me is after awhile of working along and posting on sites firefox will stop responding. I then go to google chrome and it will work fine for a little while and then it too will stop loading pages. I then put Opera on yesterday and it too stopped loading pages.
I know the internet it self is still working because my remote desk top will still be working and so will ftp.

Another thing  that is frustrating me is when i try to end task on any of those programs that stop loading it does not end. I tried for an hour in the task manager to end the tasks with no luck.
The only way I have been able to get things working again is to restart the computer and I have to do that at least 3 times a day.

Another thing that is frustrating me about it is I was in the middle of an ftp transfer of a really large file and I left the computer going and when I came back an hour latter it said it did windows update and restarted the computer. I had to restart the ftp transfer over again.

Any way I am going back to my linux. after work I am installing pcbsd on this machine that has windows on it.

Oh and another reason I got windows was to try and see if I could make better skins with photoshop so i might put windows xp on one of my computers for tha but in now way am I putting windows vista back on.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Ami,

I used to own my own computer business and built and repaired PC's. I have since closed that business but when Vista came out I tried it for about 2 or 3 weeks and after vast amounts of frustration I to gave up on it. I formatted my system and reloaded XP Pro which in my mind is an upgrade to Vista.

For those of you that will try to flame or argue that Vista is good I have proof positive that is sucks. Never in the history of MicroSlope have they ever provided a means of either downgrading or swapping an OS for a previous version. That is exactly what the did more many people and businesses when many found themselves with systems that were just short of useless when Vista was loaded.

XP is much faster, about 20-25%, and much more reliable. I think my next system will be a MAC running VM-Ware Fusion which will allow you to run just about any OS on top of your Desktop with out having to reboot. It intigrates extremely well with OSX to the point where if you iconify a windows app it will dock itself into the OSX dock. It is also very fast, I would say that it will run most windows apps at about 90% the normal speed which is pretty impressive for an app of this kind. If you want to see more info on this app check it out at: www.vmware.com/products/fusion

P.S. I have no connection with that company at all, just very impressed with their software.

Hehe sounds like you agree with me.
I tried it again because people were telling me how good it was with sp1.  I should have just put windows xp on to run photoshop.
I do agree windows xp is much better then windows vista.

Oh about you being a computer tech thats my main job besides web dev which is my side job. I have already had to reintall windows xp on customers computers who also wanted to try windows vista, my own dad was one of those customers.

Oh and vmware works on linux too so I might get that for pcbsd or a different distro. There is win-door as well for linux which runs windows apps.
:)

Ami,

Yes VM-Ware will run on Windows, Linux, and now MAC. The only problem is if you run it on Linux or Windows you can then run just about any Windows or Linux distribution but you can't run MAC on it. Where as if you run VM-Ware on a MAC you can have the Host MAC as well as just about any Windows and Linux distro giving you the best of all 3 worlds.

There are even a few options now that allow you to install a OSX on a standard x-86 machine, one of the better ones that I have seen is a USB stick out of the UK. When inserted it makes the x-86 machine look like a MAC to the OSX and allows it to be installed. If I can find the link again I will pass ot on.

Mac os does have Unix under the hood so it is part of the family of Nix (linux and unix)
Mac is closer related to bsd then other nix distros though.
It just has a customer GUI over top of it. :)

Just found the links. I'm sure that some will say this is illegal but I remember reading that they were taken to court by Apple and Apple lost the case. If I can find that I will post it as well.

For Europe go to: http://www.efi-x.com/
For US go to: http://www.efixusa.net/
