Been away for a few days. The pic gives a clue.

Details for another time - or perhaps never - but all is OK!

A poignant side-note. While away, I got a reminder from this site to visit and wish BobS for his birthday on the 30th.

I hope somebody can throw some light on his condition, soon.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Yikes, but nice to see you can make a (song?) and dance with it :).

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

LOL, Jean.

As the old saying goes, "You've gotta laugh at yourself, or you'd die crying!" and that wouldn't be to anyone's advantage, certainly not mine!

There are still a few good years left, but it is bloody annoying when you attempt to do something 'physical', and then remember you can't. Mentally there are no limits - 'anything' is still possible!

A few days after posting the above, I was sorta 'forced' to call in at the 'E' bit of A&E suffering from an abdominal pain that was excruciating.

To shorten the story …
  • staggered into emergency at 2 a.m. on early Thursday morning
  • many tests later, admitted to ICU by 8 a.m.
  • stayed in ICU until first op 5 days later
  • released to surgery ward after a couple of days
  • joyfully told by medics that they were going to keep me until the following Monday so that they could operate for the second time
  • 2nd op went OK and slowly the tubes and IVs and other paraphernalia was disconnected allowing me an element of freedom of movement
  • released a couple of days ago - still pretty wobbly on the old pins
  • back for a Saturday visit tomorrow morning to get a final check on blood-works to confirm I am actually on the mend

I don't think there is any more drama on the horizon, but it comes as a bit of a shock when something sneaks up and takes you by surprise!

Be well out there.

Oh! Wow! I'm sure I was not alone to have been more than concerned by your silence and hoping for the best.

Your loud sigh of relief after that gruesome experience is well received and I trust that your recovery will be swift.

Looking forward to read you soon on these pages,

Be well!

I totally missed this thread and didn't know you've been incapacitated for awhile. Good to know you're upright and (sorta) moving again.

I work in an LTAC (long term acute care) hospital (non-medical position) and see struggles on a daily basis. I see how frustrated they become when they try to do even the simplest tasks they so easily managed just the year before.

Most of our patients (avg age is probably 78) recover enough to return to their previous habitats (either nursing homes or their own), but a few no longer have the strength or will-power to continue the struggle and decide it's time to pass on to the other side.

I'm only 51 and every day I'm able to be upright and moving I know will be a good day and is a blessing for me because I'm reminded through work of how good my life still is.

Sorry to hear of the suffering part Fletch but happy to hear of the recovering part!

I too have been in the same (well similar as the ailments are different i am sure) shoes for some time now. Sorry the only pictures I have taken while here are of some rather nasty looks at the inner workings of my legs that I am sure nobody wants to see. None of me in the gowns sorry. I prefer wearing my shorts and lying half naked in the bed. Again not pictures anyone would care to see lol.

I am hoping to be going home by the end of next week though… i think?

Anyway, pardon my quietness round here till I am out.

LOL for the first bit, Duck! I know exactly what you mean.

My 14 year old granddaughter insisted on visiting 'the old man' in hospital (the second episode). I tried to get the rest of the family to dissuade her, but she was adamant. I think one look at an old geezer, unshaven for several days, lying in bed with tubes, oxygen feed and other stuff connecting him to an array of instruments has cured her of wanting to do something similar again for the rest of her life. I tried to make a funny quip or two, but it probably came out all wrong!

I hope that you are home by the time you read this. I know the urge only too well …!!

I hope you both get well quickly and get back to the comfort of your home. I would not like to be probed and pricked by assigned vampires for too long either.

My own quietness around here lately has been due only to a bout of laziness following my decision to retire from scheduled work contracts. I thought I would finally have more time for seriously diving into ocPortal and be somewhat more productive in that respect, but I was diverted by long overdue house renovation projects and the gift of a Kindle book reader which is capturing my soul during the night and send it time traveling to other worlds.

Take good care both of you!

Well I keep getting out for about 2 days max and ending up right back in. Infections mostly keep me returning. So here i sit back in the hospital for yet another visit for probably another week. But overall I am doing ok I suppose and am confident things will heal eventually and all will be good. But man I am sick of the hospital food bleh!

Sorry to hear you've had a relapse, Duck. Hope they 'sort it' soon.

Couldn't agree more.

But during my last adventure in hospital I couldn't help but chuckle, despite not being able to speak the language, at how patients contrived NOT to help each other by being overly generous!

"Not tasty enough, mate? Here, have some of my salt." That was one of the exchanges at a meal, one that I took the time to look at the accompanying 'ticket' that the recipient's meal carried, and it was very clear that the dietician had clearly annotated "NO SALT" on his menu!

Can't win 'em all …!!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!
