Welcome & Site Zone conflict.

Hello,

I am having a few issues with my newest website using 9.0.7. I have built my site based off the welcome zone, but when you do a search it immediately forces a viewer into the site zone where extra panels and undesired formatting is found. In addition as there will be no members accounts, accessing the site zone forces 'please log in' unless i give guest access to the zone.

How do I fix this conflict?

Also search currently results in a critical error - bailing out (though this may be due to my current configuration of it).

Please report what the critical error is in a bug report.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks

These issues are unrelated, but as you were good enough to report the bug one, I will v. quickly answer the support one :).

You need to setup a transparent redirect (Admin Zone > Setup > Redirects) from :search to site:search. This will allow the search module to exist/function within the welcome zone.

If you send people to search via the search block, you may need to set its zone parameter to "" by manually editing the Comcode (I doubt you can do it in the UI, as it will think blank means unset, while actually it means welcome zone).
Actually this probably won't not be needed because the block should auto-detect the search module exists in the current zone, but I thought I would mention just in case.

This is a pretty rare configuration, usually people don't have more than a small amount of welcome zone content – but it's perfectly valid also.

This is also an issue for the news block. Is there a way to skip wlecomezone and go directly to site zone? The need to transition between them is inconvient.

Sure, just enable the "Single public zone" option :).
