for the user maps block

I was going to implement the google maps block on a site and was going to get a key to load in it when I discovered this message from google and they say you don't need an API code with version 3

Google said

Note: The Google Maps Javascript API Version 3 documented within these pages is now the official Javascript API. Version 2 of this API has been officially deprecated as per our deprecation policy. We encourage you to migrate your code to this newly updated and enhanced version!
Welcome to the newly updated and official Google Maps Javascript API V3! This JavaScript API now officially replaces version 2 of the Google Maps Javascript API. The versions look similar, though much has changed under the hood: Version 3 (called V3 within this document) has been designed to load fast, especially on mobile browsers such as Android-based devices and the iPhone™.

So I was wondering if you guys had been working on that and if not maybe I'll tackle it myself and if so can you point me in the right direction to save me time in hunting down which files I'll need to edit. I mean I haven't looked yet and it may be very self explanatory but so far every time I have wanted to look in a file to edit something it's taken me a while to find where I need to be lol so just in case I am asking before I begin.

Thanks.

Awesome thanks so much. I figured someone probably already did it or was working on it that's why I asked before going ahead. Sorry for not searching better though.

I think the existing addon does have all this incorporated, but the description on our site could be out-of-date.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
