Explanation for something :P

Hiya,

Still getting used to ocPortal. Can someone explain what the difference between a zone and a page is?
Also, the below screenshot mentions "site zone" as a default to add pages to, but I do not see one in the list to choose called "site zone", I don't recall ever deleting it.

A zone is like a folder, a page is like a document.

In your case, you have the "single public zone" option on which means the Site zone is merged into the Welcome zone, hence why this is selected.

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Yeah I found the Zone thingy a little confusing myself at first (well still sort of do lol) but Chris explanation is a great one with folders and Documents. I have come to look at it as a Zone is a collection of related content and a way to organize your site into different areas based on that.

I have also found that you're right that in a few areas if you chose single public zone it is referred in places as site zone which you can'rt find cause it is now called welcome zone and that is confusing. I think it should be changed so that if person chooses single zone that all references to zone are called site and not welcome. Welcome should only exists if you chose to have separate.

For me it was in the beginning also a dramatic epos. Now I use Zones for different photocamera clubs, with own groupforum and galleries. Every zone (club) has own pages, but central theme and other addons. :)

This was the only place I could see. I've expanded that text to explain better. It's not as simple as you suggest Duck, toggling a config option shouldn't change the settings of the actual zone, and the natural zone to use is the Welcome zone. Users should just rename that to Site if they want. We could try and do some magic on it, but it'd complicate things, potentially create a minor-performance issue (depending how we did it), and potentially get in a way with the settings someone was explicitly desiring.

Zones can contain ocPortal pages, which Wordpress isn't, so the answer is basically 'no'.
(You can import Wordpress and set up the site structure to read news from a particular zone, but that's different)

If you wish to keep Wordpress in a subdirectory on the server you of course can, but it wouldn't be an ocPortal zone.

You could also edit the Zone Menu to put in a link to your wordpress setup so it "Appears" to be a zone with ocPortal although it actuall isn't. Of course if it were me I'd much rather just import wordpress and use ocPortal as my Blogging tool since everything would be integrated that way and quite frankly much better than WP.
