Most CSS is good, yet code needs...

Greetings,

I'm now back to my Cyber'n Essence Network project with help of a friend of mine hosting me for free. I'm doing most things different from before. The issue I'm having is the shoutbox tempcode from the "block_shoutbox.tpl" code doesn't want to obtain data. The errors are…

Code

A parameter, MESSAGES, is referenced in the template, TOP, but not passed

A parameter, URL, is referenced in the template, TOP, but not passed

How would I go with this, also, I'm making the shoutbox be a long, horizontal shoutbox rearranging the field, button, and message areas… FYI…

P.S I've submitted a 500 (max) review of ocPortal in HotScripts, and it says it'll be up in 42-76 hours awaiting approval.

Hi,

This is saying that those parameters are being referenced in TOP. Is it that you moved them out of the block template and directly into TOP? You can have the shoutbox at the top, but the template structure needs to remain the same.

Thanks for reviewing.

Okay,

So I removed the ShoutBox code from TOP and since the block_shoutbox.tpl already had the code, nohting was changed there yet now It seems when I try putting the shoutbox back to side panels and restart, it' ignoring it or something because it just won't show. :'( Hmm… I guess I'll give up on that. I'll try to thnk of something esle to had in my top. :|

Code

{$BLOCK,block=shoutbox}

Try putting that in the top.
I have not tested that but I think thats what you want.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

I'll try that, thank you.

Update: Nope, the path to the shoutbox block was incorrect so I change it from "shoutbox" to "side_shoutbox.php", that made a huge ocPortal error. Argh…

Wow, what I did made so I can't do anything (www.cybern-ess.net). I went to FTP and edited TOP.tpl with in the templates_custom of my all-zones template I made, but yet no change. I don't want to re-do my whole template… Oh wait, I made a back-up, where can I use it… nd where can I find it. :|

I'm refreshing… :|

Edit: I can't even access "uninstall.php", all this just for a minor modificiation of inseting .php after side_shoutbocx of your code. I can't go back as I do in FireFox when I mess-up in Internet Explorer, it says it's expired. At least I copied my theme file to my computer…

Indeed you had made a lot of changes from what I can tell.
At this time I am unsure of why it is not working.

Now I know why Chris or Philip adviced not to put PHP in these files. I've learned my lesson yet all it was was an extension. :'(

the path to the shoutbox block was incorrect so I change it from "shoutbox" to "side_shoutbox.php"

Blocks are called up by just the main portion of the filename, without any path or file extension.
But you were almost right- 'side_shoutbox'.

when I try putting the shoutbox back to side panels and restart, it' ignoring it or something because it just won't show

My first thought is whether you edited the file manually. If so, the template cache would need emptying.

Oh wait, I made a back-up, where can I use it… nd where can I find it.

They get put in exports/backups

I can't even access "uninstall.php", all this just for a minor modificiation of inseting .php after side_shoutbocx of your code

I'm not sure what's happened, it sounds bad, but this is very unlikely to be caused by the shoutbox change, as the uninstaller doesn't use these templates.

Now I know why Chris or Philip adviced not to put PHP in these files. I've learned my lesson yet all it was was an extension.

I doubt this was the actual cause, but if it happens again, please attach a screenshot(s) and we'd be happy to try and diagnose it.

Yeah, I found out where the backup's where yet it was in .txt format &  I read it with an PHP error. I fixed this whole thing by deleting every table from PHPMyAdmin form the database, and removing all the files and reinstalling it. It's good, I removed the .php fromthe code, and when I uploaded the copied theme files before I uninstalled the first copy, I figured out that that "side_shoutbox" was it yet the whole block at the top didn't go well so I just deleted the code. I'm just going to put the network channel links there. Can there be sub-zones of a M.S.N? If not, I'll just have to upload another copy as some of my ideas of a channel of mine would be further more branched. Thank You for a well-written PHP Website Engine, ocProducts.

I'm not sure where M.S.N.'s come into it, but sub-zones are possible. However, it is very complex to set up, requiring manual changes to info.php and the Apache configuration file (which requires full server access). See point '13' at:
http://ocportal.com/forum/pg/topicview/misc/7178/index.php&kfs266=0
(You're talked about 'complex hierarchies'.)

Ah, well that a neat, and simple (it seems) feature that requires a bit more server access I see. That is awesome that there's a tutorial and I can do this. I'll just wait and see if my website would go on to a dedicated anything related to full access to this feature an expand. I'm a happy person now…  ah dang, there's no emotion to express the happiness I have… SO….:wub::wub:
